i recently bought a set of 5 spokes that are polished. they only came with one cone center cap and i cant distinguish whether they are american eagle or rocket brand? i have these wolfsburg caps but the fit is too big for them. the wolfsburg cap is too small. any help please? the center cap area on the wheel is approximately 3 inches in diameter

those look like american eagle 5 spokes and they most likely have AEW on the back of a spoke. those wolfsburg caps should fit. do you have the set screws that hold the caps on?

Yes. That kit is what you need to install them. The wheels you posted are the American Eagles (the good ones)
The Rockets have a smaller center cap hole that always cracks. Those flat caps you posted will work on your wheels and since it is a ball joint car, they will go right on no problem.

The Wolfsburg Alloy wheel caps were designed for use on many types of 5 spoke rims. The OEM Porsche 5 spokes rims have the smallest ID and the AE have a slightly larger ID.

That is why the 8x32 1/4" long set screws will take up the added differences between the different rims. (IM me if you can't find the correct set screws as I think I have a set of the screws & allen wrench around here)

So, there may be a little lose fitting until you screw the caps onto the rims before installing them on the car. just equal out the lengths so they rae centered.

If you are in a high thief area, drill a little indent for the set screws to dig in better.
Use blue Loctite on the sets screws and if you ever have a tire shop work on your rims, take the wheel off the tighten the set screws on the caps as they only like to slip the center caps on.....

It looks like your rims and the WBC-1 caps (shorter tops) are the early versions as in the past 3 or so years, Amercian Eagle had been cutting the stout (where the cap rests against...) down on their rims so the WBC-1 master needed to be redone with a taller and more clearance for them to fit the new rims. This was done a couple years back....

If you have the OEM Mushroom dust caps or later ones that have 2 raised bumps on them....buy a pair of the after market Braizilian dust caps as those can hang up on the WBC caps.

If they were Rocket 5 spoke rims, then the WBC-3 caps were made just for that rim (but also fits the Vanagon OEM mag too...) as AE wasn't making VW rims for a while.

Here are the center holes on Rockets. See how thin the lip is where the center cap hole is... The hole is smaller as well.

also, Rockets are flat where the lug nuts seat, American Eagles have a 'counter sunk' recessed area for the lug nut washer to sit in.

compared to yours
