I just read the initial report. Interesting that he and many others were caught in the slide while standing at the bottom of the slope, not while skiing down it. One of the first things I learned in my back country skiing and avalanche forecasting days is you never stand at the bottom of an open slope. Always stay well out of a potential slide path. Seems like at least one of the folks in that group would have known that, if not all of them.
I am sure more facts will come out about what happened. Sad to hear this. It seems to have been very preventable.

Bobby Beathard, who spent more than three decades as an NFL executive, has died at the age of 86.
He died Monday from complications from Alzheimer's disease at his home in Franklin, Tennessee, his son Casey told The Washington Post.
A 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee as a contributor, Beathard was a personnel executive for five teams in his career, including Super Bowl champions in Miami and Washington. He was part of 10 division winners and four Super Bowl winners overall, including the 1972 Dolphins team that finished undefeated.
