Just a quick question. Are the brake hard lines that are available from vendors (like ISP West) sold in the correct lengths for our cars? I measured my lines and the local auto parts store didn't have anything close to most of the sizes. Two of the lines I picked up are a 1/2 inch longer than my factory pieces. I figured that was workable. But the remaining lines I couldn't find anything suitable. The new pieces were a minimum of 3 1/2 inches or more too long.
Thanks! _________________ Joe P.

I do not know about the ones that ISP West sells. I have heard of people making custom VW lines, but it takes special tools, and is not easy.
For the rear line, you need 84". I typically use 2 42" lines and a coupler under the carpet beside the seat.
BTW, at the Flaps, be sure you are getting Euro lines, and not Japanese standard. There is a difference. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

The lines that I purchased do say that they are european/metric. I've considered making my own lines, but I didn't want the expense of the additional tools needed. I have to replace just about every component of my brake system which is going to cost a fortune as is. I just found that I had already purchased the front/back line a couple years ago, but it actually came in three pieces. 1 long and 2 short pieces. I think the length listed was 88 inches. I thought about getting the longer lines from the store and just putting in a little zig-zag in the line to take up the slack. But I didn't think that would look good and would prefer to avoid it. _________________ Joe P.

Any slack in the main line, I put under the rear seat on the left side.
As for slack in the front lines, make sure the tie rods do not rub it. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

A lot of the flaps have a tool loan/rent so you can buy the line and make your own. I usually buy whats close and then just shorten one end to suit.
I just bought a 8 foot piece to do the front to rear main line. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php
