Is it making noise? Funny crunching sounds? Best I can think of is backing off the nuts that hold the window to the regulator and set the window at the top of the door. Then try and see if the regulator will go up and down without the window in it. Visually inspect it moving and see where it's hanging up at. I just did a rear power regulator and didn't see any clips that needed to be removed prior to instaling. _________________ 64 Type II

The only thing I could think of is that you have the rears in the front. I am not even sure that is possible! _________________ 64 Type II

When you take the regulators out look at the cable. This has been a while since I have done this so please excuse my inability to describe the parts. There should be a plastic guide where the cable exits the mecahnism. These guides get chewed up and spit out by the cable and then the cable gets caught up on the mechanism. Usually about half way up. The cable binds because the guide is either missing or the cable has cut through and jams against the mechanism. It only happens going up. Going down there is no pressure on the guide. This may be your problem. 80s 90s and 00s VWs all had power window failures. I remember replacing about 6 regulators in two different relatively new cars I owned. Junk yard ones are no better. Dealer ones are outrageously priced.
I finally found someone who would replace the plastic guides with a brass one, but not cheap, but it solved my problem. They charged about $125 the same price as used ones from the junkyard. Can't remember who I sent them to, but it may have been Austin VeeDub. |

I removed and reinstalled my window regulator in my 1993 vw cabriolet.
My problem is that my window goes too far up.
Anybody know if adjustments can be made installed?
If not, when I reinstall it again, how do I ensure that it has the correct stopping point going up and down. |
