I'm about to paint my silver Audi rims black and wanted to compare what type of sheen folks have used.

I'm looking for something in either satin or semi gloss (less than high gloss but not flat/matte) and readily available e.g. rustoleum etc....

I bought a set of black powdercoated CLKs for $200. I bought them but ended up running chrome to match my bumpers.

I am going to save the black CLKs for another project/time.

Ooh let me get my gallon of gas to wash out my eyes. What is the attraction to black wheels?

It took me awhile to buy black wheels for an old truck even though they were the cheapest wheels available (cheap was the #1 criterion). I bought them and didn't even paint them grey as I considered. Being a geezer, I tend to associate black wheels on pickup trucks with anti-social d-bag coal rollers who should be relocated to a place where they can't breed or do any other harm. I need to work on my judgements. Wink

I have seen that in some cases black wheels can look pretty neat.

Anyway, here's what chatgpt scrubbed from the www to answer your question:

Why do people like black wheels on cars?
Black wheels on cars are popular for several reasons. They often provide a sleek and modern appearance, complementing various car colors and styles. Additionally, black wheels can create a sense of contrast, emphasizing the vehicle’s design features. The color is also relatively easy to maintain and hides brake dust and dirt better than lighter-colored wheels, contributing to a cleaner look. Ultimately, personal preference plays a significant role in why people choose black wheels for their cars.

When did black wheels on cars become popular
The popularity of black wheels on cars began to rise in the early to mid-2000s. This trend gained momentum as automotive enthusiasts and manufacturers started embracing darker, more aggressive aesthetics. The sleek and modern look of black wheels became associated with a sporty and upscale vibe, contributing to their widespread adoption in the automotive industry. However, it’s important to note that style preferences can vary, and not everyone follows this trend.

Do old people like black wheels on cars?
Style preferences can vary widely among individuals, including older people. While some older individuals may appreciate the sleek and modern look of black wheels, others might prefer classic or traditional styles. Age alone doesn’t determine someone’s taste in car aesthetics; personal preferences, experiences, and cultural factors all play a role. Therefore, there is no universal rule about whether older people like or dislike black wheels on cars—it depends on the individual.

And my syncro with black SA rims front, and (flat) bronze powdercoated custom rears. I wanted to try out a color that matches a magnesium wheel with a Dow #7 finish. I'm going to get the fronts done the same.

Hahaha right. I did have to drive 6 hours total to score that deal.

I had friends try to buy them but I refuse to let them go. These wheels will go on a Tin Top or a Doka at some point.

Here are my Passat 15 inch et37 steel wheels, center bore opened to 67 mm. Got tired of losing my Eurovan hubcaps. Center caps are Amazon sourced with 2 inch custom VW logos. Have to shorten grease caps to minimum depth, but easy mod even with the Mercedes locking nuts behind them.

That's a tough looking van. Black wheels and black accessories look good with the paint color.

Is that a Gary Lee winch mount?
