A few months back I was replacing my rotor on my distributor, and when I put it on I noticed the my crank pulledy moved a lot, a was surprised because this motor has very low miles on it. The only problem I had with the motor was the sorry ass scat gold pushrod tubes that leak to no end. So I pulled the motor out and measured the end play it was a little above 50 thou !!! So I began the the tear down and expected to see carnage with the front bearing and there was none, no slack at all but the pin on the bearing was slightly oblong. I split the case and the only thing I noticed was the third bearing had some movement, side to side back and forth. On the flywheel you can see a oil pattern like it was seeping out slightly. What is going on with this engine im stumped???

looks like the case was cut for thrust and the bearing did not match. the pin will hold it in place till there is some real load on it.

I did the standard break in procedure on it. Turned out the case was cut for thrust and i used a standard size thrust bearing Brick wall Brick wall Brick wall I drove it like that for four years. So the crank pounded the case out, the dowell pin for the bearing got pouned out as well. So i got machine work done, got a new cam and lifters. I've already built it up to a long block, pics in the gallery

Are the scat lifters still crap after all these years? I thought they were ok with single springs but go to hell with duals.

Yo auslander, what type of springs are you running?

I was running regular 15-30. I think the Scat's are ok now, but you need to have some zinc in the oil, I've got dual springs on the heads. I went to Scat and showed them and they gave me some lube a lobes

Broke the engine in this weekend, had some hiccups along the way but all went well. Did have a weird issue though.... the jtube coming off of #1 seem's to not be firing at idle, but when you put it under load it fires, we switched plugs, and wires and it still did the same thing. A special thanks to OMT and MadManx for all of their help and answering my thousands of questions.

1 cylinder (or even 2 on a side) might not fire with that type of induction setup, it's very common.

I have been told it is common to idle on only 1 cylinder per side with Kads.
