1969 bug with 1973 block, Stock Dual-port with heads/valves done by friend who has machine shop- guides replaced and seats/valves ground to spec.
34 PICT-3 rebuilt by Keifernet with rebushed throttle shaft and riveted plate hole. This one was on my Super beetle before I crashed that car in 2012.
AirCooledNet SVDA Distributor with Pertronix I from 2010- Still like new!
Stock Muffler with original German heater boxes.
VW Paradise (now Paradise Motorsports) of San Marcos bottom end- fixed spun bearing on #1 and polished and put in new Silverline bearings on crank/rods.
Replaced terrible cheap flywheel with good German one from Interstate Auto in Lake Elsinore.
Blue Coil (Brazil) painted black for ‘stealth’.
Got original air cleaner for 1973 from classifieds here.
Valve on vacuum line to air cleaner thermostat is to shut off hot air to carb on hot days (thermostat flap works but stays closed- hot air- all the time due to stuck thermostat). I leave it open to warm up the car and then shut it off after the motor is hot. On cool days or night driving I just leave it open (Preheat on).
Uses ‘waste air’ gauge under cylinders for temperature sensing. Dipstick sender bent and put through grommet in rear tin hole and under #2 cylinder.
Has Flaps and thermostat for proper warm up.
With stock ‘69 unvented engine cover- I use 3” modified ‘tennis ball trick’ for cooling.
Runs like a top with 27MPG average City/Hwy at 60 MPH on freeway.
Comments welcomed.

Looking good. The only thing I’d change is getting a new air-cleaner thermostat. I believe Rock Auto still sells them for the Rabbit, which is the same as on our later Bugs.

Rock Auto-VW 038129828=$86.29 Gr
“ VW 035129630B= $98.79 Bl
AutoZone SU8153=$71.99 Gr
“ SU8654=$137.99 Bl
O’Reilly. ATS35=$64.99 Gr
Express OEM PARTS 035-129-630B =$84.23 Bl
“. 038-129-828= $78.87 Gr
(Has Lock plate and gasket too
Plate 113-129-830= $3.57
Gasket. 113-129-832=$1.67
Parts Vortex. 035-129-630B=$82.52 Bl
“. 038-129-828=$78.20 Gr
Clip and gasket same numbers and approx same prices here.

The two last ones are genuine VW shops so have clips and gasket if needed
Amazon has the thermostats, too. Try same numbers.
Gr= green body with plastic hose connectors.
Bl= black body ( like stock) and one brass and one plastic connector.
The O’Reilly one is the best value and same as the other Green ones.
On AutoZone and O’Reilly they say they will not work for 1973/74, but they do.
Hope this helps.

After reading all the links for all the parts and looking up all the vendors, I thought I would ‘share the wealth ‘ of what I found.
Enjoy!

What’s the difference between the green and black vacuum hoses?
The reason I ask is that the nipple on the intake manifold below the carburetor is larger than the nipple on the thermostat in air cleaner and I find it hard to get a ‘best fit’ on both.
Also, I have noticed that sometimes the black hose is conductive and sparks can be ‘grounded’ though its high carbon content?
Anyone else notice this and resort to rubber hose between air cleaner and manifold connection?
Thanks

Not sure why VW used green hose. I was told by the boys at Avery’s Air-cooled that originally 73-74 bugs came with 2 green vacuum hoses Think
So that’s what I run.
