The sliding door automatic lock on my 91 Westy is giving me fits. It will lock and unlock via the auto lock system but will not stay unlocked for more than a moment or two. When unlock the doors and watch the sliding button on the inside of the door it goes up and then slowly drops back down, apparently due to gravity. It seems like it is too loose or something?
I can unlock it from the outside using the key with no trouble. Is there some way to tighten this? Is it a symptom of a bigger problem?
Thanks,

sounds like part of lock mechanism is broken. I had this very same trouble and had to replace lock. Take it apart, if its broken it will be obvious. |

I don't have auto lock doors, but on my 81 the sliding door will not stay unlocked. The inside locking/unlocking lever will always drop into the locked position via gravity. I pulled the mechanism and there was one small spring that was broken. This spring worked against gravity to keep the lever up when you put it there. The whole mechanism does not look like it is easily pulled apart to fix such things, so I have rigged up an external spring (a small bungy cord) to be able to keep the door unlocked. You have to remove the external spring to be able to lock the door. Not a brilliant solution, but... |
