does anyone have a listing of the month/year of production and corresponding serial number ranges of early carburetors and fuel pumps? i'm trying to get a few engines as close as possible to the correct carbs and fuel pumps for their production dates.
the carbs have the numbers on the front of the float bowl.
the fuel pumps have the number along the flange of the base.
looking for 25hp and 36hp fuel pump info and 26VFIS and 28PCI carb info, up to 1960.
any info or links to previous threads would be greatly appreciated. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

Hey Hazetguy,
Just saw your thread and since I'm working on some early engines that need to be correct, I will start searching some of the numbers on carbs and fuel pumps. Great idea ... thanks. _________________ Rick Clark in Monterey County, CA USA

I asked this same question in a different thread. I'd love to know about this carb. It was mounted on a factory rebuilt engine that appears to have been rebuilt in the 50's

Thought I'd resurrect this thread in the hope that more info might be available today.....
I'm trying to date a zwitter/53-only carb that is numbered 853189 and would very much like to hear from anyone that can possibly give me a date as to when it was produced......
Thanks.

May 1954 original motor - carb number 1159744 motor number 1-77197? Car built on 18 May 54 according to Birth Certificate. (motor number not confirmed on b/c as it is a CKD car.)
Kick me if I haven't posted my Oct 55 numbers by the end of the year.
Anyone can feel free to join in posting their numbers |

I have an early cogwheel 26 VFI carburetor that I sure wish there was some date code data on. The serial nur: 11837 that's a pretty early number. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Here are a selection of my own early carburetors with their serial numbers. It would be great to find the dates of the changes etc.

Is this an early VW carburettor?
The throat measures 26mm at the base and the stud spacing fits a 25ps manifold.
The only markings are a stamped in number [9087] on the front face of the main body just below the top flange and a cast in number of 08.102 on the left side of top part below and behind the fuel feed union thread. The thread for the fuel union is correct for 8mm fuel pipe.
Does anyone have knowledge of this type please?
Yes I know there is some damage but until I know if it's possibly an early VW carb I'm not getting it restored. _________________ Rod,

Thats interesting Rod. It could be an industrial carburetor as they generally come without the raised band around the fuel bowl. The numbers on the top are very similar to on my Huf carburetor in the picture above, mine say 08.102.8.
They may be too different carbs, the top being a Huf. The lower part looks very course, and the area where the idle jet screws into the carb is larger than all I have seen. Maybe your base is an early cast base? _________________ http://volkzbitz.com

Or it could be a Huf carburetor with the throttle and choke linkage borrowed from a Solex carburetor. I believe they are interchangeable. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Does anyone know anything about this carburetor? I did see one on eBay that they called a VFI II.

I also have three 26 VFIS carbs (all with the raised cast-in "band" around the bowl), and one 26 VFI carb without the raised "band".
There are no apparent serial numbers on two of them and the other two have serial numbers (#678521 and #750325).
Trying to decide which one to focus on for a mid 1952 engine...
Inquisitively yours,

Recently I found this SOLEX 26VFI carburetor, both halves KdF logoed and stamped with serial number 1759. That seems to be very early.
