Please can someone post up a picture showing where the wiper motor earth wire should attach to the body. _________________ -StockRocks- |

Thank you Everett
Shows it earthing to a Deluxe dash bolt.
Wiring is not the correct colours…hinting at a revision…and runs on top of the nose bracing - so becomes trapped by the kick panels.
Could someone post up a picture from an original Kombi/Standard/Panel/SC? No dash bolt to attach to. _________________ -StockRocks-

I could not locate one in my set of photos or in the gallery here.
There may be one in the Gallery not labeled as barndoor wiper motor or wiper motor in the Barndoor area
I found this pic but the guy installed a 12v motor:
I believe this was how my old Single Cab and Kombi were grounded _________________ How to Post Photos

Yes, not factory correct for the earth to go to the mounting bolt (which has rubber pads either side).
And by fixing it there, it will become trapped by the kick panels.
From the 54 Workshop Manual:
Both live and earth wires go into a joint sheath
Live goes to the wiper switch
Earth probably also goes to the speedo pod area, and could be earthed to the speedo pod or the dash pod bracing?
53 wiring diagram shows the wiper motor (Z) earth going to the speedo pod:
The earth wire should be brown
The live wire should be black/purple
54 wiring diagram (wiper motor is W1):

A better pic of a polished base. Possibly NOS. I can't say for sure if this is Barndoor, but it sure seems that way. (Might not look polished in the pic, but it is)

FWIW, my June 53 microbus had polished bases with chrome arms and blades when I got it. It also had 66 tags.
Wiper blades are wear items. But the parts list says chrome blades were used in 53, so I think they are correct. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Has anyone replaced the springs in their wiper arms? If so, where did you get the springs from? _________________

Does anyone know the lenght of each of the wiper rods, and maybe if later buses rods are of equal length? |

I am not sure if later rods are the same length. The removable ends appear the same to me, not sure offhand if the secured end fits the same.
measurement of the longest(secured to motor)
343mm(13.5 inch)
shorter rod
312mm(12.25 inch)
Keeping in mind that both have a little adjustment on the removable ends.

Thanx so much for the measuring ”Beater Barndoor”.
Looks like the later ones are the same lenght, and fully usable!
The ones I compared, came of a -58 bus.
Again big thanks! |
