Hey Adam;
Here is my 7/58 SC. Not sure if it is a transition bus or not, has high tail lights and pressed bumpers. You've seen this truck in person in Eugene and even took measurements of its original hoops several years ago. VIN is 370590. Regards,
Cris

hi cris! truck looks great,its a regular 58,no shame in that! august/september seems to be the nuggets im sifting for......yes i got those measurements from you,had the hoops made.........then ironically the very shop i had do them started reproducing them.........im sure they didnt get the idea from me..............
thats odd on those aussie low tailight/pressbumper buses,i wonder if they just had a larger stack of the pressbumpers in the ckd factory _________________ Have a great day! |

no,while there are those that think theres a "58 only" decklid,its not true,in fact most buses built in 58 had the eyebrow lid,the "58 only" lid is actually a 57/early 58 lid _________________ Have a great day! |

hey there,
Mike1973 has just forwarded this thread to me.. very interesting indeed.
Heres a pic of my bus in 2000 when I bought it. You wouldn't want to see it now.. i'm ashamed of it...
RHD semaphore standard microbus from NSW, Australia
VIN # 372268 - dated by wolfsburg as 23rd July 1958. so super close to a transition bus
Bumpers were changed as some are in Oz. Just purchased a set of ribbed bumpers for her after 9 years of chrome late bumpers. What are the other telltale signs of a transition bus.
I'm also trying to find out the OG color of my bus.. the only traceable color now is on the bulkhead sprayed on areas where teh sound deadening was stuck on. Just curious if it was a bus that was painted one color or was OG PG/SG. I'll post a pic of the bulkhead paint soon.
Cheers

if your bus has the headliner strips for the hardboard panels its a kombi which were mostly dove blue,rarely 2 toned,if it has the strips for the fabric headliner its a standard microbus _________________ Have a great day! |

My bus is VIN 384555 and was built the 29 August 1958, primed and sent to Westfalia factory to become a SO23.
Had pressed bumpers, front holes were hacked to fit later type, but the cut metal was just bent back. Tailight holes were also hacked but there are traces of the original holes, so I will check if it is high tailight, _________________ Aug '58 pressed bumper SO23

a discussion on 58-59 model year differences was on a type I forum and I noticed that the type II was also listed as changed on November 1st 1958. Would this explain the transition and use of 58 parts past the accepted model year month?

What kinds of factory literature contradict? Is it the literature vs what an original car actually has or sales brochures vs PR? |
