|
|
So I have this set of Mercedes wheels I would like to put on my bus since I have to get new tires anyway... I have searched the forums and am unsure of which is the best way to go, so figured I would poll this and get opinions.
The rims I have are the ones with the steel insert for 12mm lug bolts. Some of the threads I have read state to just drill these out to 14mm, others say to change the studs on the bus. I have heard it is hard to find the right size pitch and length of stud to fit properly...
so which is better to do? I don't want the wrong stud size to spin off cause they are not tight enough, and I don't want to weaken the wheel if drilling them out will in fact do this... so which way do I go? _________________ Without love in the dream it will never come true |

I have a thing for different wheels... I have two sets of stock wheels, two sets of vanagon alloys (these are being occupied on vehicles)... i am actually short a set of wheels for one of my vanagons... so i bought the mercedes wheels... i haven't bought tires yet... but i wanted to try something different...
in 4x120 style I have mexican beetle alloys, turtlebacks, 2 sets of western wheels, a rare (on this side of the pond) ats wheels, gurneys, 8 spoke empi's as well as steelies... 4x100 i have even more...
I'm generally a stock nazi when it comes to my bus... but wheels are more of a bolt on item... to date my bus is 100% stock down to the 1978 sage green paint... but soon it will need to be repainted, and once it's not original, it's not original...
I really need to use these wheels else I need to sell them... I'd like to use them at least through a set of tires _________________ Without love in the dream it will never come true |

For a dime, I'll take a dozen. I'll pay shipping. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

These are the 14" not 15" they sell for about $200 a set all day long... that's cheaper than most VW wheels
How come I didn't see anyone complaining about this in the thread I stole the pic from? or any other mercedes wheel threads? _________________ Without love in the dream it will never come true |

Yet, apparently, no extra wheels laying around for a thing. _________________

I still have no extra wide 5 wheels... I don't drive the thing and sold the old bug i had and gave the wide 5's away with it
They generally like to pick on me...
I really just want advice on which way to go with this... i'd really rather not change the studs on the bus... but i don't want to damage the wheels either _________________ Without love in the dream it will never come true |

I know exactly what they are.
Why don't you just clean up and repaint your stock wheels? You already know that you're going to need to modify; plus, Mercedes wheels on a VW look like ass. It's as useless as a fake convertible top.
As to the "what am I going to do with them" part, AFTER you bought them ain't the time to ask! _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Then I will go with my original plan of modifying them to go on my westy as I like the way they look on it... guess you'll just have to deal! _________________ Without love in the dream it will never come true |

well, you know when you ask for an opinion, you will get answers you dont like. im with Tram on this one. mercedes wheels belong on a Mercedes. not a VW Bus. then again, do what you want, its your bus. |

That pic was from a thread I started about those wheels. I found them in a pawn shop for $100. The offset and bolt pattern will work but would require smaller diameter, longer studs. It didn't seem like all the extra work was worth it. |
