I have only ever installed them when building the engine and it comes in the full gasket kit. I am sure there is a PN listed somewhere for the single purchase though.
Also if you take the fan hub off and with you to a the supply store the o ring is the same size as the little indentation on the inside ( to the crank/case) and a tad thinner than a pushrod tube o ring if that helps you. |

Alright I got the seals... does one really need a special pulley to remove the fan? or can I just use sockets?
Looks like just a few bolts around that center bolt....and from what I understand, center bolt stays in.
For those who have done this before, do I basically just need to take off the belt by loosening the alternator, and then removing the 3 bolts in the fan? I don't see anything else that would need to be done....the alternator doesn't actually need to come out does it?
thanks for any suggestions, non-mechanically inclined person here |

remove the three M8 bolts holding the fan on.. The center bolt to the crank should NOT be touched.. Fan just pulls off once the three bolts are removed, no puller required..
Yes, just remove the belt by loosening alternator and sliding it toward the center to slack the belt.. |

My bad, I thought you were replaceing the little Oring outside of the seal you are replacing.. You will have to take the hub (what the three fan bolts screw into) off the crank after the fan is off so you gotta remove the center bolt I said to leave alone then remove the hub with a puller. |

Alright, I was afraid of that... thanks for the reply, might just be best to have it sent to the mechanic. |

You did read all of this thread and your Bentley's descripton of this job, didn't you? You don't really need a puller but may need special tools if the bolts attaching the fan are triple squares.
You don't have to remove the alternator but the middle rear tin has to come out so the fan can be removed. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

is there any disadvantage if using regular metric 10.9 bolts instead of the special bolts other than being stock vs non-stock? _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

The later buses use regular bolts. They may be a slightly different length than the triple square ones.
To pull the fan hub off, the Bentley manual shows a "special tool" which looks like just putting a piece of metal between the fan hub and the case and tightening the fan bolts against it. _________________ 1977 Westy, Automatic. Big Valve heads, CS Cam. |

I hope not, because thats what i've installed now. the socket kind that take a 6mm allen key - cap screws? i forget the name. anyhow, they were black and 10.9.
I had to use this style cause i wanted to install the older style fan with the pointed center, too tight in the recess for cheap socket. _________________ May of '72 Deluxe. 2.0L L-Jet CS & 091 trans conversion

Can't say I've found one. You can make your own. _________________ Eric

Clean both surfaces and put a thin smear of RTV Silicone on either and assemble. You have just modernized your engine. |

Thanks guys. I'd rather not pay 8 bucks for a gasket that I can cut out of some gasket material. Good idea on the silicone, may just go that route _________________ 2.0L FI 76 Bay "Sunshine" |
