I have been battling this exact issue. I also pulled the fan and replaced the fan hub seal. Didn't know about the O-ring that I am sure I am missing at this moment!
I ran the engine with out the fan with the old seal and new seal and no leaks.
I replaced the dipstick oring and was using a Re popped Bus Depot oil filler, but it didn't last long.
Last I found what I think has been leaking so bad. My breather gasket was torn. I cut a new gasket out of cork. Seems to have helped. _________________ James

I’m about to tackle this job in a 79 transporter, hopefully without much fits.
From what I’ve gathered thus far, I need a harmonic balancer puller, remove the center (fan area) cooling tin, a new crank pulley seal and O-ring and some time, correct? Button things back up, smile, and cruise looking back over my non-oily fan and motor? _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.
