Hi
Noticed while dismantling my 55 engine that # 3,4 con rods had their matching numbers down and # 1,2 had their matching numbers up.I dont believe this motor has been fully dismantled before as it is fairly low milage and every thing is still std sizing. Is it possible it was this way from factory.Should I have all of the con rods with their numbers down when resembling Confused:Thanks Ross

Ross The 36hp Crank in the #1 Rod TDC position! The Rods and caps are installed on the crank all bearing Tangs and numbers are matched as on the BOTTOM position on the crank. Eric Cool

Thanks Eric
I will assemble the rods (with new shells)as they would normally sit in the cases with rods / caps with numbers facing down. But to ask a silly question I understand why the numbers on the cap/rod have to be on the same side ,but why do the rods have to face down?
