i cant take it anymore
We the people of thesamba.com
need to start a index thread for the bentley
im tired of having to thumb threw 2-3chapters
to find the info
how possible is it to start a bentley index
in the archives (kind of like the dictionary)
everyone here can summit keywords with page number(s)
then a copy can be printed & placed in the book
or am i the only one who feels this way
ps, is info on the decel valve in the eng chapter or fuel injection chapter |

Bingo. I've never found the Bentley all that difficult to navigate. There is an index at the beginning of each chapter telling you what page in that chapter you can find certain information. _________________ First Trip in the RustyBus:

I've found the Bentley to be rather haphazardly organized. It may have a discussion of topic X for some years here and for other years somewhere else. Quite a pain, really, but I've got lots of notes in mine about cross-indexing. _________________ John

What would be nice, really, is if the Bentley were available in electronic form, like as a PDF document. That way you could search the whole book by keyword and easily find every instance of, say, "decel valve".
But they probably don't want to do that as it would make it too easy to "share". |

If it was in PDF 1 person would buy it, and everyone would have it. _________________ M-Plate

The pdf idea sounds great.
I am used to the indexes of many books I read and feel confused when it is not there or not comprehensive.
Yeah, it doesn't take much to thumb through and find what you are looking for (especially as one become more accustomed to the book) but, when you are mid-way through a job and need to find something...it can be frustrating. Especially, when you are sweaty and already quite frustrated! _________________ Fear is the mind killer.

I printed up the Ratwell index thing (that we put together a few years ago on the Samba) and keep it in my "3 ring bus binder".
I have other stuff in there on how to test the various FI components or how to remove the engine along with other stuff that might be handy to have when you are a long way from a computer and you (or someone else) has to fix something. |

I've started one of those too (the 3-ring bus binder). I'd say so far about two thirds of what I have compiled has been cut and pasted from your posts Randy! |

$110 bucks just screams "GET A 3 RING BINDER". I like the binder idea. I even have and extra Bently that came with one of our buses. Now I have one for the road and one for home. |

hmmmm, I wonder if the contents are exactly the same as the paper "Bentley" repair manuals or if this "eBahn" repair manual is something different. Sounds great if they're simply talking about an electronic version of all the authentic Bentley manuals.
Too bad they don't sell them individually as most people wouldn't need all 10 manuals. But I guess that's how some companies are approaching the sale of electronic versions of stuff previously available only as hardcopy. I once tried to get an old back issue of a particular magazine. They would not sell me just the one issue but they offered a DVD archive of 10 years worth of issues for $200. Looks like it might be the same sort of thing here. |
