For $700 bucks, you really did get a good deal for its condition. Aside from the battery tray, the floor pans looked to be in fairly great shape too!

With the black trim, sport wheels and red paint. That looks like to be a special edition model called a Love-Bug.

You're kidding about the special editon right? haha Do you think it came from the factory like this or some PO did this to it? I seriously doubt the factory would do this...but then again.. Question

The paint striping was probably done by a previous owner. I don't think they did it at the factory. (at least wise from looking at pics of love bugs from that SEbeetles site and on here).

Some of those black painted items and wheels could have been added by the PO, but is hard to say though.. Confused

Taking a close look at the pinstriping, it doesnt seem like factory or dealer qualty, but it hs been there while. When I peel some of it off, it seems to have either made an indention into the clear.

Looking at the SEsite, you are correct. There is lots of black trim on the car. The interior as mentioned on the SE page as Dogtooth Grey/Black Cloth does seem correct but I didnt seem to notice the Love Bug plaque on either side of the car.

Just bounced the VIN of the car off of the SEbeetle site and it falls within the VIN range listed on the page. http://www.sebeetles.com/lovebug.htm

So a Love bug huh? Sweet!

Haha, I have to admit, those pin stripes are kinda unique but if you could see them in person, I think you would change your mind!

I tell you what, call it a rat look and then you won't have to worry about if they're deteriorated or not. But of course you'd have to slam it.

Small set back on progress.... Sad

I didnt want to mess with the front suspension too much, but I guess this is a good time to learn since its taken apart this far.

I got the drop spindles in the other day and started to disassemble the drivers side wheel and its components. Rented the ball joint tool from Autozone so I could replace the ball joints. What do you know...the first one I tried was the drivers side lower. Evil or Very Mad DAM THING wouldnt come out and busted itself! So I have no choice but to take off the arms and get them pressed out and the new ones in! If you ever wanted to know whats on the inside of a ball joint, here you go...3rd pic. Heres the damage:

One more thing to those who may not know. When removing the torsion arms you are going to need an 8mm hex bit....got mine from AutoZone....the hex screw is located in the pics below:

So I got the torsion arms back from the machine shop with the new ball joints in stalled. The whole process was really a breeze except for those darn ball joints! Lesson learned....there's just some things you cannot do in the garage at home! Here are some pics of the finished product. Cleaned up the torsion arms pretty good before I reinstalled them.

Fixed th rust in my doors. Some people told me to just replace the doors since it would be difficult to weld. I used a product called Lab-metal that actually turns into a type of "metal" but goes on as a paste....GOOD SH*T!

Then used a svery small amount of bondo just to smooth things out and BAM...pretty and smooth as a babys bottom!!!

never heard of it, but cool. Looks like it worked good. What a weird spot for rust.
