|
|
I have been looking at all the buggies for sale in my area for quite a while and finally found one that I would like to build last week. It arrived at my house on September 4th it is going to be a lot of work but that is the part I am looking forward to.
Here are some pictures
Here is the id plate located between the battery box and the spare tire hole. Does anyone recognize the builder name I have looked but I can not find any reference to the company on the internet.
It also came with a 1965 pan
It should be a busy winter. |

Wow, that's the same production as my old shell...
Infortunatly, I never did figure out where it came from but at least, I now know the complete name. I was left guessing the last letter (V, W, U)
I still have that shell in storage.
I'm very interested in finding out more about it.
BTW, it's a very close copy of a Manx-I, even has under fender re-inforcing tubes.
Keep me posted if you find anything.
Here's a picture of it when before I rebodied it with a Berrien Nosalgia body.

Looks like your about in the same place I am. (And why is it every buggy seems to have a butchered rear license plate area?) Keep us updated on your progress.
Thanks,

I believe they butchered them to get at the carb better... But, I could be wrong! _________________ ~X-Man~

Yeah its for a center mount carb I am sure. It is so common someone should make a little repair kit for that area.

I haven't decided what to start on yet. For now I am thinking about just getting it running and street legal with the body all ratty then I can start driving it and upgrading everything slowly. |

That's what I did but I got to warn you, it was an expensive route for me... Ended up upgrading the same things more than once and eventually upgraded the shell alltogether - lol
In retrospec, having a plan or a goal of the finish product is probably a good idea. But, these things are never really finished, are they?! |

That is part of what I am working on right now. I want to get a pretty clear idea of what I want the end product to be so that I am not doing things twice. |

Now I know where mine came from. This site is awesome ... I was talking to a guy locally to where I live who has the same body as I do which is the same as yours. Neither had a tag. He thought that it had been manufactured in the Guelph/Kitchener area of S/W Ontario Canada. I talked to a fiberglass fabricator in Kitchener through my work that has been around for a long time. He stated that between his father and another company in Guelph they had copied just about any body they could get their hands on. My body is in about the same condition as yours but it did come with the roll bar and the dash/support. The dash and support look like they are identical to the original Manx. _________________ Hugh

Tonight I put the body on the pan for a test fit.
I wanted to be able to double check some measurements on how much the pan is going to need to be shortened I am told they are not all exactly 14.5 inches.
I will never admit it to my wife but I also sat in it and made revving sounds. |

lol, I did the same thing. Whats worse is my best friend joined me. Two grown men sitting in a half built buggy making engine noises.
If its the same as an original Manx, then the pan should be shortened 14 1/4". There is a thread in the info sticky at the top with pan shortening information.

You might even think about lengthening the Body instead of shortening the pan...

I am really hoping to be able to have a usable back seat in this buggy so I had thought about lengthening the body. Even if I lengthened the body 7 inches and shortened the pan 7.5 inches that way it wouldn't look quite so stretched as some of the long bodies out there. I quickly decided that wasn't going to happen once I got a good look of the profile of this body. I can not think of a point in the body to cut for the stretch that wouldn't make it look like a hack job. Either that or I would have to completely reshape the sides which would be really cool but as far as I can tell it would be a bigger job then I can handle.
While I was sitting in the buggy last night I had a look at how much room it will have behind the drivers seat with me in it. I think my legs just might be short enough to make the back seat usable. It wont be the most comfortable back seat around but should work for short drives or with kids in the back. I wont know for sure until I find a set of seats for it. |

Glasser as for the paddle tires I think they might just be a little harsh of a ride on the deer foot.
I was hoping to find a pan with IRS so I could lower it further and not have any major camber issues but now that I found this one and have had a good look at it. I think I am going to leave the back end until I know what the final weight of the buggy will be then I want to lower it so that the tires sit flat when I am the only one it (right now that would be about 2 inches lower). I know it will have some camber once I have a passenger but the fact of the matter is 90 percent of the time it will be just me in it.
Then I want to add drop spindles and an adjustable beam to the front so I can play with the amount to drop in the front. I like the idea of a little bit of rake |

No I think I am going to stick with the swing axle. I don't intend to drop it nearly as low as yours. I think I would have trouble getting it into my own garage if it was that low. Our back ally is way to rough.
