Note: This is a walk-through Bus but the split bench seat is the same for 63-67.

The passenger seat bottom flips forward on two loops that slide into those two forward brackets.

The rear of the seat frame rests on rubber bumpers... one goes on top of the little tower bracket, the other goes on the seat stand floor.

The inner, on top of the tower bracket (upper left in photo above)

The outer, right on top of the seat stand mat (lower left in photos above, not really seen):

Can I ask a stupid question but how are these supposed to be held in place?

I have the same and they sit in a floor mounted bracket at the front of the seat but nothing at the top/ back to hold them in place.

I have seen earlier bench seats had a bracket on the van and a long pole to keep them in place.

Sorry for being stupid.

Butt level "floor mounted", right? The top back is supposed to rest against two rubber rectangles held by a single screw. The rubbers lay horizontal and parallel with the wall's top. That's all there is to it. The earlier ones with the "long pole" are full width.

Do you have the left rear and right rear mounts and rubber buffers?

Here is the left without the rubber buffer:

Did someone cut off the hooks from the front mounts:

Here is one of the front mounts hooked into the seat:

No I don't have any mounts, just the bracket bit from the top of the mount so it looks like somone has removed the mount.

No rubbers either, I'll get a picture tomorrow.

Is not attached at the back somewhere??

Just by gravity and the rubber buffers. Of course having a passenger wear a seat belt helps to keep both in place if you are doing an inverted loop. Make sure you have your wings bolted on tight to the roof when doing that!!

Well the driver seat uses a rail system that is much like the Beetle seat rails. So no rubber buffers.

See the link at bottom of this webpage for the later "type 2 parts reference manual":

http://www.oacdp.org/aboutdoc.html

Take a good gander at that!! Lots of pretty exploded diagrams, almost complete listing of parts used in the type 2, what chassi to what chassi used, AND how many pieces required. In other words a treasure trove of info you really should go thru to find out not only for the question of how many of those part you need, but dozens and dozens of questions you will have in the future or even ones you will never come up with if you do not take your time and go thru the info in this manual over and over.

Plus with the info in there you can use the part numbers or description to do searches for parts in many VW suppliers websites like WW.

So lets take the part you have posted "211 881 186 A".

First three numerals tells you what type of VW the part was designed originally for. EG "211" the "2" means type 2, if it was a "1" instead it would have been a type 1 part. The "11" would tell you which model it was originally for which was "VW delivery van (double door right, LHD)".
If it was a "261" it would be for type 2 single cab LHD, etc..

The next three part numbers in that part you posted is "881", the first "8" means the part is a "Body" part you can find in section "8" in the part reference manual.

The remaining "81 186" is the actual part number!

The "A" means it was the first improved over the original part which would not have had a letter prefix. Later improvements in the same part would result in "B", "C", etc..

If your chassi number is 971 550 (AUG 62) or later, then yes.

Problem is the part WW shows is the wrong one. It should be round not oblong.

This is the one we have in for the bottom of the seat in our DEC62 built SC.

http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=211881895

211881895 as image shown in the WW website which should be by the image part 211881897 by the manual.

Question is, is the image shown incorrect or they are selling wrong part under wrong part number?

My belts just lay there a lot and I've never had the seat even lift off the back bumpers. The bus has hit drop-off-ditches and stops-on-a-dimes. Not saying it couldn't happen I just think the geometry of the seat makes it "submarine" into the front hooks.

Just in case, which of 1963?

AUG62 was start of 1963 model year.

AUG63 was start of 1964 model year.

Glad to help!

Then yours is a 1963 model.

Our DEC62 built SC has small round rubber buffers for where the top of the passenger seat rests against the back wall. Looks like WW sells the later elongated buffer which should work fine for your 63 bus.

http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=211881865A

So not original due to being later, an improved part, think it came out in the 1964 model year.
