Classic Montana dude...I need to update the thread title to (Montana)
He's south on Harris no? |
Coming from Missoula on I-90 you turn south on I-15 for 15-20 miles and take the Divide exit (Hwy 43) to the right and go for about 1/4-1/2 mile and he is the first place on the left. Don't expect to see a bunch of VW's parked there because he disassembles all of them which is something I kinda don't like about the guy but whatever. When I was there he was gone but I talked to his wife who knows a lot and even sold me some German vacuum line, he sells new stuff as well. Definately worth the trip or detour for anybody out this way. _________________ 1978 Riviera FI Auto Trans

Last I'd heard he'd had a hell of a fire and lost a bunch of stuff.
Also, I was under the impression that he was mail-order only: no walk in business. _________________ 1974 Westfalia "Ludwig"

Yes pretty dang cool guy. Brack. I sold him a 75 transporter and a 914 this year. he gets alot of random stuff. I need to take the ride to Divide and check it out, has been many years since ive been there.
He sells most stuff to west coast or europe.
Hey you Montanans need to check out the local site if you haven't already. we need more air-cooled locals

Yea, he did, what burned was his main shop and office which he also had some parts stored in. After that happened I sent my dad who lives in Butte down there to check out some parts for me and they already had the shop rebuilt and restocked to what they had lost. He goes to L.A. every year and combs the swap meets and wrecking yards for parts. Yes they do mail in, phone in, and e-mail orders and when I was there she didn't seem to mind as she willingly showed me every inch of the place and sold me some stuff. _________________ 1978 Riviera FI Auto Trans

I'll be out that way in a couple weeks. I should bring a runner and stick it in that thing. Did all the steering etc. look intact? What about the tranny? I hate to see that thing die. The rust looks totally superficial. |

Somebody please get that thing out of there before more scavengers take parts off of it.
It looks way too nice to just die in a field getting eaten by opportunists. |

It's kind of like watching one of those nature shows where the wolf pack is chasing the baby deer. The wolf is just trying to preserve itself. It has kids too right? Yet the final kill is hard to watch. |

The bus is complete minus what I took...well, someone got the mirrors?
all four tires have air and look as good as the spare in the pic.
I'm now 450 miles away in Bumfuck, Washington...I was hoping some Missoulian would go get her....
But since you are from OH....that bus looks showroom new!
Call the dude...
Oh, the rear bumper is in the back too. |

I'll definitely give him a call. Seriously, nice find.
Maybe everyone should just shoot some pics of what busses are in scrap yards near them if they go to pick something up. It wouldn't be that hard to stick them on a google map or something. That way people know what hulks are where if they need parts on a road trip. |

Correction: the bus is complete minus what I took. It no longer has a thermostat or a taillight lens (the one left on it is cracked) or front turn signal lenses or those heater control thingies or a sliding door latch assembly. Next time I go through there I'll be leaving it even less complete.
For those who object to the parting out of "nice" buses, PM me your email and I'll send you the pics of just how rusty this one really is. _________________ 1974 Westfalia "Ludwig"

Anything VW in the Kalispell, Whitefish area worth looking at? I will be visiting the area for Thanksgiving.

I just grabbed the rear closet/headbanger from that one the other day. Was in great shape and $20 sealed the deal. Thanks for the heads up on that. There are various odds and ends worth looking at, but it seemed fairly picked over to me. The headliner looked complete and nice (brittle?)... might try to grab that also, but I gotta learn how to remove a headliner without destroying it first. |
