Any idea what year bug recliners would fit a thing?

That is a good question. The M231 - 'reclining seat for passenger' option code uses recliner mechanisms that have 181 part numbers in the parts manual. (181 881 553 - mechanism left, 181 881 554 - mechanism right, and 181 881 555 - connecting rod for reclining seat mechanism)

Hello

The mechanism of the Type 181 recliners looks like the one used on some VW Type 3 (brand Hüls).

HULS seat recliners

Yes the HUL recliners were an option for the German Things used in military radio cars as the passenger chair. They were called the "general's chair"
