Cars ready for delivery to the Stuttgart RETRO CLASSICS: The Rometsch and the Otto Mathé Fetzenflieger.

I would also be very interested in the batch and what rometsch build number is on there?

Will they also be at the Techno Classica Essen?

Regards
Patrick

Does anybody know more about the prototype bodies that Rometsch officially made for Porsche?

It gets better...

The unique Rometsch Porsche was built for a little group called "Renngemeinschaft Berlin" in 1952-53, possibly 1954. This was a sort of race team, but with common ownership and shared driving. The car was raced extensively in 54 and 55 and has been found on participant lists at Nurburgring and other known tracks.

Here are some period pictures of both action and victory from a race in the city of Leipzig in 1954. The driver was/is Mr Schroder and it raced in the 1100ccm class.

As can be seen, it has been made more "street smart" over the years, yet the shape and aluminium has survived remarkably good. Notice Porsche A-drums and 16 inch wheels.

It's history is being discovered and researched as we speak - more to be published over at www.rometschregistry.org

PROTOTYP:
I do not think we ever heard any build-number for this car... did you find the 3-digit Rometsch build number on it anywhere? What is stamped into the tag/plate that you put on it behinde the seats?

Would be very interesting to know this for the Registry.

Also - if you recorded any such build number on the restored Rometsch Goliath you had on display for a while.

Thank you in forehand.

the number on the rometsch plate is RS01

the number on the chassis tunnel is still a late 40´s volkswagen chassis number.

the number on the other plate is the one which is mentioned in the papers and was added later for german TÜV when the car was road registered for the first time.

and there is also another number only mentioned in the Rometsch commision books which is owned by Christian and Traugott. There is also the price of the car mentioned in there.

Well, that's interesting! Are you willing to share that information with us?
Probably the costprice in 1952 was only a fraction of what the car is worth today... Wink

What is the car nr.46 on first GTI1977 picture, and the one (to ignore...), designed by the red arrow? Is it a sort of Rometsch "copy", by Harry Merkel, or someone else?

Front are 15 inch smoothy's drilled with the pattern of the originals, rear are 67 Beetle wheels. Tyres are Camacs 5.20-15 with old style profile.
