Does anyone know if it is allowable or workable to mount a Propex on it's side with the combustion airflow pipes horizontal?
thanks,

Check with Karl but I am fairly sure that it is ok. Frank C. in BC Canada mounted his in the cabinet between the fridge and rear seat using space behind the false wall after deleting the shore power hook up. If I recall he laid the unit on its side to do this. When we add a heater to our van I will be copying Franks installation as it uses space normally not used and let the vents go out the side vs the floor. _________________ AK_Runner

Mark, always feel free to call me. The Propex can be turned on it's side, just not on end. |

A: No. The heater must not be mounted vertically or upside down. |
I read this as meaning "not on its end nor upside down". I don't read this as meaning "not on its side", but I wish they would spell it out. The site simply doesn't specify.

Thanks Karl. I want to put it between the front seats with the combustion pipes going sideways out into the wheel well area under the passenger seat. Syncro of course so no fuel tank or fuel lines in that area like 2wd has.

Propex Heat Source site reports on the FAQ page:
Q: Can the heater be mounted vertically?
A: No. The heater must not be mounted vertically or upside down.
Does it means I can install it between the front seats, facing back and with the combustion pipes going sideways out into the wheel well area as "crazyvwvanman" has said, under the passenger seat?
I'm going to do it tonight...
Thankyou! |

'Vertically' means on end. It can be mounted in any direction around it's horizontal axis, but never on end. |

I installed it that way a couple years ago and am happy with the way it works. I wish I had used the smaller unit though as the big one makes more heat than we need and would block a seat swivel if we had one installed.

Thanks Mark,
It seems it fits good, is the yellow pipe the gas pipe? may be it's a different version of the heater (I bought the blue HS2000, it has the gas pipe on his bottom).
Do you have some more pictures to show me, please? (e.g. how the heater fits for the first part of the outgoing gas pipes?). |

I used the larger 2800 version and wish it was the smaller one like yours. Mine is mounted on its side with the bottom against the seatbox/wheelwell. The yellow pipe is a flex gas line.
