|
|
Does anyone have photos of the aftermarket folding jump seat that mounts to the back of the passenger seat bulkhead? I saw one months ago on a Dutch Bus website, but can't find it now. I have searched the forums here and can only find photos of the 73 Westy type jump seat that has storage below. Any help would be appreciated. _________________ Love of VW and Porsche automobiles - all years.

Thanks, but that isn't it. I found that one too. The one I am seeking is an aftermarket jump seat with a very simple backrest that is separately mounted to the rear side of the passenger seat bulkhead and the seat section mounts to the bulkhead below the backrest. The bottom flips up and "mates" with the backrest. I shoulda saved the pic when I found it. But you know about what they say about hindsight....LOL
Thanx again though. _________________ Love of VW and Porsche automobiles - all years.

Not aftermarket, but ambulances have seats like that, some Magirus and Ziegler firetrucks have a similar seat as well. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Yes, this is VERY similar to what I saw on the Dutch bus website. Is this what was mentioned in the previous post mentioned?? In ambulances and fire trucks?
Thank you soooooo much. I am interested in designing a similar seat and marketing them if there seems to be a demand.
Thanx again. _________________ Love of VW and Porsche automobiles - all years.

Would they legally need seatbelts? I would assume they would....
But, I used to have a 1964 Corvair that did not have seatbelts, would inspections let that slide on older vehicles as an aftermarket installation??? |

I could see using that seat for a camper (or when camping) but not for carrying passengers. _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

That was our thought too. We had no intention to use the jump seat while on the road. We'd like to use it as an additional seat while camping.
We had planned on making one for ourselves first, and if we can keep the manufacturing cost reasonable, we'll make a limited run of them and offer them for sale to the public on sites like this if there is enough interest. We haven't seen anything like this offered anywhere else that we could find.
So, that being said, would something like this be of interest to you? Let us know what you think.
Thanx for the input so far. We appreciate it. _________________ Love of VW and Porsche automobiles - all years.

That's just the seat though. A simpler seat with hardware to attach it to the vehicle might have some appeal.
Not to me though, I have a swivel front seat in my Westy.

while it might be a nice product, it would only appeal to early bay owners who dont have the swivel seat. still would be nice tho. _________________ 1969 Westy, 1690cc. montana red and cloud white.

I would try looking into some older airplane jumpseats.(think stewardess seats) I think they fold up like your saying and are thin. Also I would imagine fairly nice hardware would be used to attach them. Im sure the auction site could find some cheapies. Just a thought _________________

Or you could go with something like this out of an S-10. It could even be built into a cabinet. _________________ Ken

That may be true for late bay Westy owners, but we have a 79 (late bay) Riviera and, unlike Westies, it has no swivel seats. To install a swivel seat I would have to cut the bulkhead out that is behind the passenger seat, weld in a strengthening gusset in place like the Westys, re-paint the area, find a swivel seat/base assembly someplace, reupholster the seat to match the drivers seat, tear out our existing passenger seat and rails, dill more holes to mount the swivel base......and voila! I would have a swivel seat.
But that's a ton more work and way more money than just adding a jump seat to use when camping.
Maybe the market for the jump seat is limited because everyone has a Westy with a swivel seat........Everyone but us..... _________________ Love of VW and Porsche automobiles - all years.

Well, we have a '77 Westy with swivel seat and I still had to install a jump seat. I needed an extra seat with seatbelt because We have three children. The Vanagon Carat jump seat fit the bill perfectly. It's a very secure seat for my oldest daughter to ride in, and removes easily for camping, etc. Good luck in your endeavours! _________________
