Found this original paint camper a few blocks from my house last year. It's complete with the exception of the tent and the body actually pretty good. Overall it's very solid but has some serious localized rust and has been hit pretty good in the right rear and grazed on the right b pillar and forward cargo door. It's going to be my winter project that I plan to have ready for spring road trips and overnights up in the mountains next year. I'm not restoring it but am getting rid of the rust and sealing it so it doesn't continue to degrade. I plan to bring the paint back to life and blend in new paint in the areas that have been worked. And then go through every aspect of the bus so it's ready for another couple of decades. Here's a few pics as I found it and of the condition of it and few pics of the left side which the metal replacement is now complete...bottoms of all pillars, both front and rear close outs, inner and outer rocker, rear outrigger/jack point, and few patches on frame rail, outriggers, cargo floor. I'll post pics throughout the process. The metal work and paint retouching is being done by old car garage in albuquerque. Here's a link to more pics of their work in progress if you're interested: http://s974.photobucket.com/albums/ae222/Wwauto/65%20camper%20bus/?start=all

What is that repair post called I need to order one but I don't know the name we could also make one with sheet metal but it would be easier to buy.

I'm going to practice my mcode reading on your plate Wink

Damn, look who's moving to the head of the class! Bravo Linda! Westy paint codes are weird. Because it's a special model, the paint codes stamped are weirdos too. 506 will be the color in "Westy Code" and the preceeding 3 digits I forget.

523 506: 523 means left hand drive export kombi. 506 is SK 506 which means dove blue upper and lower.

Very simlar. When I got my westy it wasn't dual circuit brakes but it's coded for it. I'll change it to dual circuit.

Yes, the plan is to paint the worked areas and blend it in with the original paint. I'm still deciding if I want to attempt to create the paint fade look in those areas. I welcome your suggestions!

108 is actually "without 5 side windows" it means the bus came with 5 jalousies. Pauls SO-44 came with it spelled out on the documents.
002- where did you get that interpretation? It sounds made up to me. 002 is on most SO-42 westys, FWIW.

There are abou 4 main M-code combos found on the M-code plates of normal SO-42s

The progress is awesome!
If I had those skills I wouldn't have sold the dormy

I remember when Paul disclosed his og documents - that was less than 8 years ago.
I don't think 430 includes dual circuit brakes, either!
