Is the suspension on the '84 westys different from the one on the '85.
The 84 all ways feel a lot harsher. _________________ Tight is tight... too tight is expensive!!!!

as far as i know '85 had a 1 year only spring
the long spring is '85, the shorter is '83.5
the height difference when fitted is less that 3/8"
difference in ride, i've not noticed, lucy now has the '83.5 springs, changed in florida 14,000 miles ago _________________ lucy our westy

The '84 vans have the stamped front lower control arms and the later '85s have the cast pieces starting in (IIRC) August or so. If I'm really out, someone will provide the correct info. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Thank you for posting that 'Early/Late' calculator link! I learned a great many useful things about Winston from that. That's one of the more useful bits anyone's handed me about him in quite some time.
No wonder we get along--we were both born in January.

this 84 sits higher on the front like the 85s do, and it feels stiff, and some what rattly. I'm thinking doing coil overs on the rear and replace the front shocks. _________________ Tight is tight... too tight is expensive!!!!

My rear shocks wear shot , i had a nice pair of KYB, and it made a hell of a difference. the fronts look and feel OK but I'm thinking on replacing them, just going under the assumption that they where as old as the rear _________________ Tight is tight... too tight is expensive!!!!
