PostPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 6:35 pm    Post subject: International Title Service Reply with quote

Well this is the start of a long rant. I have a real tough situation now and I hope it has a good ending. Long story short, I bought a car with a lost title in WA State. I bought from a reputable local buyer, and did a lot of due diligence to check to ensure the car was not stolen at some point. See my sig for details on my car and build. I am not a pro, just an avid VW hobbyist! ANYWAY, being that the car is in pieces, if I want to get a title anytime soon in WA, I pretty much have to go through a title service, like International Title Service. Here is the fist thread I started about my lost title in WA state, well over a year ago:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=347893&highlight=title
As you can see, it was suggested to me to try ITS. I actually waited over a year to get ahold of them, but in June 2010 I sent them all the info, certified mail, cashier's check for *OUCH* $425 (big Fin mistake, but I don’t like giving out my credit card number over the phone or through mail), all the paperwork notarized, etc. Pain in the neck, but I got it done. I am investing thousands of dollars and hours into restoring this car, I want this out of the way. They received the info fine, I spoke with the guy several times back then. It was always one guy. I think it’s a one man show. Sheit. Anyway, he says something like 8-10 weeks to get your title with license plates and all. After three months I started to worry and called. Talked to the same guy (anyone know his name? I do not) and he said “everything is fine, all the paperwork is at the DMV, they are a small office and slow”. Well, OK. I have been patient and now 6 MONTHS have passed.
I have left five, count 'em 5! messages in the last month, probably called 30 times just to try and get a live person to talk to, and NOTHING, ZERO, ZILCH. The phone # is still active, voice mail lets you leave a message, and their website is functional.
http://www.its-titles.com/
Look bottom line is, even if this gets worked out, I am one pissed off customer and at this time I recommend you keep your money in your wallet. Go with a different plan to get your title.
In the meantime, does anyone know this guy, or know what is up with this company?
****PLEASE HELP**** Sad

I've been forced to use ITS as well and had a positive experience with them, the man delivered me a title good to go brought another car back to life paperwork and all. Smile

Thanks for the reply, and good to hear you had luck. How long ago was that and how long did it take?

I have used them several times in the past. But, I've been waiting since the first part of November and I can't get ahold of them either.

Yes, it does not look good folks. I was told by the owner that they were doing business with the Vermont DMV. I called their HQ in Monpelier, VT today to see if my car, it's VIN #, or my name, etc. was in their system, and NOTHING, ZERO. Furthermore, they have no record of doing business with ITS, *AND* as a matter of rule, do not title vehicles manufactured before 1996! I encourage everyone who's unhappy with the service to file a complaint with the BBB in Las Vegas, here:
http://southernnevada.bbb.org/consumersmain.asp
The BBB sends them the complaint and gives them 10 business days to respond and/or resolve the problem.

We'll see how this goes, but I may pursue legal action, and/or file a police report against this company pending any more info, or negative outcome. If nothing else hopefully we can get folks the facts. Stay tuned.

ITS doenst work with the vermont dmv...their "affiliates" set you up as a LLC thats how they get you the plates etc. Thats probably why they said they didnt work with ITS when you called to ask...

I myself am currently in the dark with them, but I can tell you that ITS never actually did the dirty work. You would get paperwork back from dealers in other states with completely different names.

Another thing, you were never going to get a "title" you were going to get a registration in your name and a bill of sale.

We shall see where this goes. I have heard of a Trabant owner who got a title recently after 6 months so it's not over yet!

VW72 and BenJamin -- thanks for the replies and yes not surprised to hear about their elaborate 'process' to get it done. As you suggest, maybe that explains why I'm not in the VT system.
Good to hear that even after 6 months there's a chance. Just wish he would communicate and be up front with us.

Everyone -- I don't want to hang this guy if he's done nothing wrong and intends to make it all right but at this point it doesn't look good.

Looks like I got their attention, I just got an email from them:

I know you have been trying to get ahold of us, sorry we were not able to get back to you sooner, you will have everything this coming week for your VW including the license plates.

According to Supaninja, nothing so far has come from the email he received on 1-19-2011. I continue to basically call daily (weekdays) and have had zero success in getting anyone to answer the phone. I've sent a couple more emails and have received no response. Their website remains active as of today. Just wanted to provide an update.

I'm glad I read this. I was going to use ITS.
I bought a beetle of a very old couple who's dad owned it. No paperwork at all, but I will figure it out somehow. Rolling Eyes

I'm in the same boat as well guys. I contacted ITS to register a 1966 Vespa Mailed my paperwork end of September and I am still waiting! Same BS story...got him on the phone once or twice over the months....Vermont DMV backlog, blah, blah, blah. Just be patient.......
Last contact was around December. Now, I can't get through on the phone (Always Busy! or machine), no returned messages/emails. I paid by credit card, but since it is now beyond 60 days, I can't simply just reverse the charge. I may still be able to get reimbursed from my credit card company, but I want my friggin plates!
And it kills me that this prick is running off with peoples money.

In the meantime, I filed a mail fraud complaint with the post office, and ask that anyone screwed by ITS to please do the same. I also sent him an email letting him know

https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx

The more compliants, the greater the chance of this actually achieving anything.

I found more "happy customers" here:
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/22890-international-title-service-service-11.html

Does anyone know this joker's name? there has got to be some legal recourse, no?

Dave file a complaint with the BBB too http://southernnevada.bbb.org/

Its been 2 weeks since i got an email from them saying my package is in the mail. Still nothing, still can't get ahold of them, and still have not had my emails replied to.

I'm not going to tell you guys where to or where not to spend your money, but its been 7 months and I still have nothing to show for it and their customer service is the absolute worst I have ever seen in my 35 years on this planet.

PS: I just filed a complaint with the US Postal Inspectors. I'm going to send an email to Mr. Holmes with a link to this thread. Maybe he will realize that he is losing customers from his piss poor business ethics.

I just sent another email to him, I used the contact link on his webpage:

Its been 2 weeks since I got an email from you, your phone is always busy and you haven't been returning my emails. It seems I'm not alone right now http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5113846#5113846

It has been 7 months now, I need those plates and registration so I can get that car on the road. All the reviews I read about your company were good, but if I knew it was going to take this long and that i wouldn't be able to get ahold of you I would have never given you my business.
