I need to put parking brakes on my buggy to be able to make it road legal and it has to be a separate system from the hydraulic brakes. The buggy has two right backing plates on it now and no parking brakes..
From the looks of things, it would be easier to have the parking brake cable to enter the backing plate from the rear instead of the front and the axel would protect the brake cable from brush and branches also.
Question, can I get a left backing plate and mount them on opposite sides so the parking brake cable enters from the back ?
I'm sorry if these are dumb questions, I want to get it done so it is safe. |

Yes you can run the E brake cables so they are coming out towards back of car. Early VW Bugs up to around 1955 had the E brake cables ran that way. Way a carry over from using mechanical brake systems.
Doing it that way you will need the early cables to have long enough of the cable sheathing to reach chassis.
I never had a problem with cables catching on anything when the come out of the front of backing plates. I have been driving off road since 1970. _________________ Joseph

Thanks you for your answer.
My machine is set up for four shocks , I won't be using all of them but it is a lot of stuff to thread the brake cable through. Going in through the back avoids all of that and would have less bends in the cable.
It is in a rail and the seats are nearly even with the front of the trans so I don't think cable length will be a problem.
Thanks again |
