Not a movie, but a documentary seen on YouTube and on TV: "Timeline, War Factories, The People's Car" (2020). Oval-window going for the passing lane on the German Autobahn superhighway, passing a Renault 4CV at right. The 4CV's engine lid large vents were sometimes used for grafting onto Beetle lids. The 4CV had a 4-cyl. in-line ca. 750 cc water-cooled engine in the rear. The chromed "emblem" above the engine lid was the filler cap for the radiator coolant. The Beetle's lic. plate is of the 1945 thru mid-1956 style; the left stacked letters BN are for the British occupation zone in Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen in German), the state in which Wolfsburg is located.

The Tin Men 57 Oval is an interesting story because it was part of the story line and referred to twice during the movie. The Oval owner at the time the movie was filmed in Baltimore spent three days on the set with Dreyfuss and DeVito and passed along many of the staging scene photos and his experience. |

Oval sunroof at border crossing, German movie "Verliebte Leute" (loving couples), 1954.
Oval sunroof driving in background, German movie "Es geschah am hellichten Tag" (it happened in broad daylight), Switzerland, 1958.
Accident-smashed Standard oval in German movie "Bruecke des Schicksals" (Bridge of Fate), 1960. Takes place in the general Munich area, though MB letters on lic. plate is the city of Miesbach which is south of Munich near the Bavarian Alps foothills.
I found a few ovals on TV shows and in a documentary, have them in my gallery, but won't post them here because you specifically mentioned "movies" in your title post. |

"Visit to a Small Planet" (1960) starring Jerry Lewis as a friendly and curious alien coming to Earth. He flies over a sunroof oval and many other cars stuck in traffic in his friend's 1958 DeSoto convertible by using his alien powers,
and there's another sunroof oval at the "romance park".

^ Seeing henry's response, I watched this movie and took some screen shots. At first you cannot determine the Beetle is an oval, but then you see the rear window's outer end shape as seen through the porthole "windshield".
The rear shots show the W engine lid, and the bottom curve of the rear window. Dual exhaust cutouts in the rear apron date the Beetle from late '55 thru '57 model year.
Movie from 1974 was set in the village of Paris in New South Wales, the state in southeastern Australia. |

British TV movie documentary from 1968 "The Doors are Open" about the rock band The Doors. As Jim Morrison sings a slow song, various cars are shown getting hit. This oval window Beetle is in a slow-motion roll-over.

In the "Bullitt" (1968) car chase within San Francisco; first posted by Geezer (shown) and a nearly identical photo 2 years later by Rene R-
Perspective is from the black Dodge Charger, driven by Phil (Bill Hickman). 2nd car on left is an early Fastback of which I caught a better shot but don't have it in my gallery.
Searching the Oval gallery for "movies" finds a few more: Blauchen L331 posted from "The High Cost of Loving" (1958)-
From aa390392- "The Vault" (movie year not specified)-
From George L- "Pal Joey" (1957)-
From HMVWNAB- "Vertigo" (1958)- |

von split, sorry I did not acknowledge your sighting in my screen shots above; I did not know about the movie until you posted your response, then watched some clips to find the Beetle.
Grey late oval parked, German movie "Im weissen Roessl am Wolfgangsee" (in the white horse at Lake Wolfgang), filmed in Austria. 1960. Well known hotel/restaurant. The white roadster is an MGA. |

"Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine" (1965), filmed in San Francisco, California.
"Hatari!" (1962), filmed in Tanzania, East Africa. Could be an early '55 with low taillamps, overrider bumper, single exhaust tip.
