Anybody else planning on heading up/over/down to Temecula to see the bus movie with us? I notice on the aircooled forum that there's about 10 or so campsites that the sv2 group has reserved. Should be great weather and an awesome time!

See ya'll there.

Sorry Cesar, yes you are an aircooled too didn't mean to leave you out! I meant on the sv2.com aircooled forum. I think they are limited to pre-1980?? Not sure, but then again I have coolant in my veins... Wink

See you there!

Looks like it'll be a little toasty everywhere in the SD area this weekend. Looking forward to seeing lots of vanagons and buses.

Yep. I was in Temecula yesterday around 5:30PM. It was still in the 80s.

I saw 94 and 66, downright chilly at night! Night to me is the most important. I can deal with heat and sun. Not sure about swimming in the lake but they do have swimming pools. We may be bringing our tandem kayak too.

Yeah, it should cool off pretty quick as the sun goes down. Looking forward to it.

Sorry guys, I'm not going to make it today. I'm a few miles north of Temecula, broke down on the side of the freeway, waiting for AAA. It looks like the AC compressor may have frozen up, overheated, melted some wiring and caught the engine cover foam on fire. The AC quit working and I smelled burning wiring so I pulled over and jumped out with fire extinguisher in hand. Fortunately the coolant tank melted and was already spraying down the area.

Hope you guys have more fun tonight than I'm having...

C'mon AAA, where are you?

Crap Tim, sorry to hear that! I haven't left yet, working on a report for work and partly avoiding the heat. Was looking forward to catching up again. Best of luck. I'll PM you my number in case you need a ride somewhere, but I'm probably not gonna be up your way for another couple of hours.

Damn, Tim, that is some bad luck, and maybe some good luck too. Sounds like the damage is minimal so far. Tow it here and we can likely get you going again pretty quick.

Thanks guys. I had it towed home, hopped in the wifes Tiguan and headed back down to the movie. I'm here now..

Looks like I'll be needing both coolant tanks, the air cleaner housing, and some wiring repair. To be continued...

Thanks again for the support earlier. I'll be hitting you guys up about those parts. You're right Mark, it was good luck, it could have turned out much worse. I'll be posting some pictures of the breakdown on my thread. Here's a teaser...

It was sad to show up at the Bus Movie meet in a Tiguan instead of the Vanagon. But I was happy to have made it at all.

It was a beautiful spot to have a bus meet. The weather was perfect. Obviously these pictures were taken before it got dark, after it got dark quite a few more buses showed up. Scott and I guesstimated there were about 100 buses of all years when the movie started.

In the picture below, notice the red splittie in the middle? I saw it yesterday afternoon driving through rush hour traffic in Temecula, and again an hour later on the I-215 headed towards Corona.
Then see the cream Westy on the far left end of the picture? That guy is from LA and has a 350 Chevy wedged in there. The white Westy to the right of that one was from Palm Springs.

A trio of clean late model splitties.

You can just see Curtis' Westy behind the lady.

It was cool to see The Bus Movie again. It made me want to come home and start working on mine so I can hit the open road again. Blue Vanagon But after getting home, I'm just tired. There's always tomorrow.

PostPosted: Tue Sep 04, 2012 8:36 pm    Post subject: Pressure tester adapters? Reply with quote

Hi. I know this is the get-together thread, but I wanted to reach the San Diego audience. I'm trying to diagnose a problem with my cooling system. I want to try a pressure test on the system and the cap. I rent the pressure tester from Autozone, but I need to find the right adapters. I was wondering if anyone has a set that I can rent.

Thanks,
Travis

If I'm not mistaken, Debbie is coming from NM the following week, so the 19th?
