there's your answer. how could it ride good if your setting on the snubbers. mule and wagon all the way. if you cut them off there will be lots of travel left. i've heard people say the snubbers are in at that position to keep from it bottoming to the point of stressing the balljoints and that what vw did was figure the angle they would be stressed and then designed the snubbers to limit the travel to 2" above that stress point.
but yeah remove that whole "arm" for the snubber and remove the snubbers out back and you should get ride back out of it. it still ain't gonna be a cadillac but it will be better.
i've got a type conversion beam waiting to go in mine. i went a bit different and it's a -4" balljoint based beam WITH shocktowers where most run without. between the shorter stiffer torsions and still having shocks i'm hoping it rides similar to a stock type3 suspension...ken.... _________________ ITMC

Start by removing the rubber if it's not more than a couple inches lowered.

Put one of those front ends on my list please.

I'm not arguing but snubbers are generally for cornering. If the only idea was bottoming out the rubber would likely be flatter and solid. Look at the upper one under the sway bar and consider what it's job might be. Rubber is off in photo.
What type is your beam? Pictures? I like the idea of shocks.
Raising or lowering doesn't change the tension on the spring. It changes the position of travel and effects the cast rake among other things like ball joints.

The only way to get close to a stock ride is to use drop spindles. Someone here had some made recently. Good luck finding any now. _________________

Stoner A is cylinders #2/4 B is #1/3 The plugged bowl is the throttle, the bong is the manifold |
