Have I got your attention? 
Saw this article and wondered what area of the world a Vanagon/Eurovan could or would you use this? Let's see salt would rot it and you woulddn't need it anyway, too snowy, icy wouldn't it clog up? And you could you could use chanins and/or studs, wouldn't they be better I don't know could you think of an application. Personally I think its ridiculous but I've been wrong before.

Grew up in the NE, now I live in the SE
We don't get much snow but we do get it.
They only plow the interstates and the main state hwys
I run touring, not m/s tires and larger, low profile tires
I could definitely see having a set of these in my Westy
I understand why they might not seem like a good idea to someone from Canada
I always have to remind myself "our north" is a Canadian's "down south"

Those have been around here for a few years, but i have never tried them myself. I have seen them used, and i have talked to people using them. The consensus seem to be that they are fine to drive up that last hill you cant get up, but if your stuck in a ditch or need to drive long distances on them chains are better. On the plus side they do improve grip a lot, are much cleaner than chains to put on and can fit on cars were there is no room for chains. On the minus side they wear fast and cost four times the price of a set of chains. If you live in the city and need something "just in case" Autosock will be fine, but if you live in the country or mountains and get snow on a regular basis I would stick to chains.

| Chains are so affordable and relatively easy to use I can't see what advantage those would hold. A 2WD vanagon with chains on the rear is amazing in the snow, IMO. |

I tend to park it Nov-March, but I do have cables in case of occasional "surprises"...more expensive & shorter useful life breaks this deal for me.

We can't use chains nor studs cause they are hard on the roads but they pour salt on and of course we know how good that is for the environment.
When I posted this I meant it as a joke. Weird to hear feedback on them. Oh excuse me I have to launder my 'socks'

would be all over it if Caltrans (California's chain gestapo) would approve. Chains are great but are painful for a long climbs over not entirely snowy or icy roads.
