you're right. If they have pics and he takes anything, they will deduct that from the offer. leave it alone and take the 8 gs

Good to know, I just signed with Hagerty last week.

Someone out there must want it pretty badly to pay Hagerty that much for it.

they will wish they looked at it in person first.

That whole thing sounds kinda wierd to me. I had a 1986 Monte Carlo SS in really nice condition . An old guy in a mini van ran a stop sign and hit me in the drivers side front wheel. Folded the rim oven, cracked the windshield, smashed the fender/hood,etc... He appoligized to me for running the stop sign and then proceeded to tell the cop that I was the one who ran the stop sigh WTF Shocked The cop laughed at him since my car was totaled from the side he had to be going at least 30 or more to do that much damage. Cant do that from a dead stop now can you lol .

Anyhow, they totaled my car and called it 3800.00 and then I got to buy it back for 700.00 . It never left my possession .Good thing as I had alot of money tied up in it.

If the buy back is 5700.00 for your bus that seems odd.
My SS was worth at least 2-3 grand at that time in it's wrecked condition yet I only payed 700.00 .
I would change insurance companies asap.

Once a vehicle is totaled, the insurance company will pay you the money they owe, and take the vehicle. They don't want the vehicle, so they auction it. Whatever the highest bid is, becomes the buyback cost. I do think my case is a bit unusual, but whoever was bidding on it seems to think it's worth a lot of money. I would have prefered to have a low buyback cost, but it didn't happen that way, so I will get my money and keeps my eyes open for another bus. I don't see Hagerty trying to pull anything here. Now if they were trying to not pay the agreed value or something, then there would be a problem.

if an insurance company totals a car, they essentially buy it from you. as bill mentioned, hagerty does what they want with the car- they auction it. bill could bid on it if he wants, he knows better. the insurance company doesn't determine the buy back price, the high bidder does.

Oh your defenitly making out ok Very Happy
But why do they take yours to an auction to determine value ? where as with mine and many others I have know over the years they just called me with a totaled amount and gave me the option to buy it back with an amount for that also ? I didnt have to go to an auction ,it never left my driveway.

My SS was a specialty car as well. They told me the value had it of not been an SS would have been 1200 bucks instead of 3800.00

I'm a claims adjuster and for the company I work for is a 3rd party that gives us a salvage value, they use a program and not actual bidders. they buy the car from us at the price they determine and they have to sell the car at their auctions.

i watch copart a good bit and if the bus was on there it slid by me. if they took that number from a third party and are planning to get that at auction i gotta feeling they are going to be sadly disappointed.

i will say that by association there does seem to be a good number of european bids going on on classic cars on copart...ken....

I guess I was spoiled from my recent experiance with State Farm (SF) on my dualy 6X6.

It was totaled by a sleepy Ohio driver who did no have insurance. Cab and front running gear not touched, just bed and rear end damaged. I carry un-insurred coverage with SF, so SF valued the truck at $ 12,700 and added $ 3600 to the value because of my upgrades, (Jasper Trans, Diesel controler, new front running gear), Taxes and license fees. I asked to purchase it back and they stated $ 2800.00 to purchase the truck. No bids, no CoPart, no BS. The truck was worth much more than the $ 2800.

I found a 5 year newer model with 1/2 the miles for $ 18,500, so I took the $ 17,100 and ran.

My classics are insurred through SF at agree on values. It would be nice if they treat my classics like they did the daiy driver truck.

My comment about Hagarty was based on that bid process, I just do not like that process.

I assume they do the bid thing, since you can't really assign a book value to older vehicles. I guess the key here is to make sure you insure your classic for enough so it won't get totaled! Then you don't have to deal with the posibility of losing it. Copart is coming to get it tommorow.
