A friend of mine suggested we get together this winter for a winter bus meet-up in Chicago...preferably in Humboldt Park...let's say January or February time frame?

Anyone game?

Let me know.

Yes. Yes. I was thinking the corner of Humboldt Park, the park, at California and Division. Breakfast at the Flying Saucer and a little hang around and chat time. I can heat water for coffee and tea out there if we want.

This is a spot where there are often classic car meetups in the summer. I would love to be apart of a gathering of vintage German bus metal there in the wintertime. Real mettle!

I might be in depending on when it is.
Jack, you should post this in the the split bus forums instead, it will be seen by more people that might be interested.

Sundays are more open for me until the election on Feb. 22.

Do you want to float the idea of one of these dates:

Jan. 16, 23, 30, or Feb. 6, 13, 20, 26, 27?

How does the Casino Kombi calendar look?

Would not want to do it without that mobile container of hot, vintage desert air.

I would however suggest it be open to all aircooled VWs. What are your thoughts?

OK, you frozen slugbugs and kombis in the Chicago region. Do any of you aircooled freaks want to meet up in Humboldt Park on a Saturday or Sunday this month or next? We can do it with just two or three vehicles and have a nice breakfast at the Flying Saucer, or we can invade with many more bugs and vans.

What say ye?

That is what I am throwing out there. I am partial to pre-68 vans but hey what am I the mayor of Humboldt Park frozen bus gatherings, no.

What Sundays look good yet this month or next, and when is good for the Casino Kombi?

Jan 30th is a nice round middle of winter number.

(i'll be in a '78 westy, a far cry from the hot vintage split, but you work with what you got, right?)

Is 8 a.m. too early? It is best to get into the Flying Saucer for breakfast before the hipsters wake up and shake off their PBR hangovers. 9 a.m. at latest.

I am thinking the SE corner of Humboldt Park. That's where the muscle cars gather in the summertime.

How does Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, sound to those who are watching?

I think 9am is fair, hipsters tend to sleep late, and that'll give people who are farther out time to get to the meet (might boost attendance).

Informal Frozen VW Bus Gathering
10 a.m. to noon. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011
Rain or Shine
SE corner of Humboldt Park, the park,
at California and Division,
Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.

You can grab breakfast and coffee at the Flying Saucer, 1123 N.
California Ave., or just hang out with the air-cooled VWs as long as
the weather allows. This is the spot where there are often classic
muscle car meetups in the summer. Come join this informal gathering of
vintage German bus metal in the cold Chicago wind. Real mettle!
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night shall stay these
buses from driving around the park.

If you plan to eat at the Flying Saucer, let me know so I can tell
them how many more eggs to buy beyond their normal volume. It is a
little place that is pretty popular. I will ge going early. Email me
at: [email protected]

I would like to see your gas heater. My father and I bought one once but never repaired or installed it. I wonder if we still have it...

Has this information been posted on different forums like Harsh Winters and on Vortex?

It would probably get some more people to come out in their ACVWs...
