did you paint it yourself? |
Well...that's a story all its own. Initially I had somebody else paint it. The body was painted first and I took it home. Then, a few days later he painted the fenders, doors, etc, etc,. The problem was, when he did, he mixed a little clear in with the paint, but he did NOT do this when he shot the body.
When I put the doors, fenders and such on, the color seemd to be ever so slightly “brighter” than the body. Not drastic, but noticeable if you looked close.
Well, I told him about it and he agreed to pay for all the paint (at $349 a gallon) reducer, catalyst and clear coat that I would need to reshoot the body with clear mixed in.
So, I went to a friend of mine who has a brand spankin’ new body shopy with a state of the art paint booth, and I mean it is saaaweeeeeet, and he said I could use it on a weekend whenever I wanted, so I took it there and resprayed the body myself. Now everything matches just fine and all is good. _________________ 1960 Sedan. L349 Jade Green. |

Wow. Its nice to see that you resurrected that bug from a sad existence. Most people would not have been able to get anywhere near as far as you did with it.
I am jealous. Thats for sure. _________________ ~low dollar dubbin~

That is a interesting story, I love the color. So you now have the clear mixed in that paint on the body too? I have seen a Truck's episode on Spike where they did this and it made a amazing diffrence in the end result. i have been toiling with this concept for my car when it is finaly to ready to paint. _________________ MyBuild http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=571921

Another cool aspect of this restoration is that I worked out a deal with a local VW shop called Happy Motors, an obscure VW repair shop owned and run by these two brothers that have had this place since the early sixties and that's all they do is VWs. They have acres of old bugs, busses, ghias, you name it. The deal we made was that I would sell parts online for them (and they have parts and parts and parts that you would not believe) in exchange for parts that I might need, so I have free run of their cars and parts to pilfer whatever I need for my car. Consequently, I have been able to salvage and use a lot of OG parts that would have cost me hundreds of dollars and/or I would have had to settle for after market parts. _________________ 1960 Sedan.
