I was forced to put on some standard drums a while back on the '67 Westy for a brake and light inspection and I couldn't find any standard German drums so I used these Brazilian ones. Recently the bus was swishing and sashaying on curves plus banging on curves. I decided to investigate, jacked it up, rocked each wheel, and the right rear almost fell off. Damn. Pulled the hubcap and this is what I found.
This drum was used in normal driving and had very little miles on it. it could have been a disaster. I know P-dub, David, and others have had this happen. Isn't there someone accountable for this crap? If this were on a Tahoe or Escalade 60 Minutes would have it on their show. |

FYI...always when starting to drive a vehicle, I weave back and forth to test air pressure in tires. If it dives more with 1x side than the other...low air pressure in that side tires.
It may also would have shown up this cracking as a dive too... _________________ Werksberg Products....Products that work!

Funny bunny. I'd sure like to have this product pulled from the market before someone is killed. These are not Frum drums. These drums are also the ones with the splines made too small and not cheap, I might add. |

The same company's drums are on the fronts, too. I sure would love to know who I have to kiss to get some more German ones made up. Even a good, gulp, Chinese one would be better than these death traps. |

I know a guy who has 2 NOS Frum Drums.
As well, my Bus has 1 VW and 1 Japanese drum in the rear. They have served me well for a long time.
Aren't these the same as 68-70 Baywindow rear drums? I would just find a set of good used VW logo ones and run 'em. If you need I can pull a pair from the junkyard. _________________ All your Buses are belong to us.

This should be a sticky or something given the number of people who have had trouble with these.
I would hate for anyone to be hurt because of this crap. |

Hey Barry,
I feel your pain. This DID happen on the freeway on my EZ Camper, but luckily it was LA traffic, so there's no way I was even close to 55.

Sheesh. That looks like a different brand but still has the wimpy spiral-shiprock pattern that doesn't spread into the lug area. P-Dub has a pic of his somewhere on here, too. I think the company president ought to have his vehicle outfitted with these. |

I would hope that the suppliers that you bought them from, and any others that carry them, have been notified. Personally I wouldn't want my name on a business that sells them, especially when peoples lives are at stake. If all the suppliers cancelled orders and/or returned them it might inspire the manufacturer to change their ways. |

Casting cast iron is really funky. One batch will be perfect....use the same process and the next batch can have problems down the road. The maker will not know what went wrong.... _________________ Werksberg Products....Products that work!
