Ok, so we left Tonopah this morn @ about 6100ft...I couldn't resist these bug shots in Goldfield, (I guess the desert does strange things to a mind) as they show type 1's make nice art!
Now onward to the bottom of North America...you can see that Moses wasn't looking forward to this trip, but keeping an eye out for wabbits.
The Gateway...
Bessie, Me and Moses at the same place...suck it up you snow bounders.
From here it's like a 3000-4000ft coast into hell...I didn't start the engine for 20 miles. (another reason not to use power brakes)
At the bottom of the hill? an Oasis! (and a golf course)
Moses still wasn't too impressed...but happy to find water, 190ft below sea level. Bessie really was running/idling like shit here.
Now back up to Sea Level...for a bit.
to be continued...

It's kind of odd to grasp the virtual lack of vegetation and nothingness here...
There is no photo op for Bessie at Bad Water (282ft below sea level), but this was close.
The only pic I could get of the sign...it's odd they don't have a bus photo op here...
the bottom of North America...
Moses looking for a schwimming hole...
Moses sayin', "Dad, let's get the fark outta here"!
More to come.... |

Ok, this sign is an "air cooled" joke...but it made Moses happy. (too bad it was a "joke", there was NO water in a mile)
What goes down must come back up...it was a 3500ft climb out of the Valley, but Bessie was runnin' better.....
Looking back...into the Valley of Death
Signs that make Bessie, and me happy!
The downhill road to Pahrump...no one was out here.
Moses poses for a retro shot...
I was gonna stay in Pahrump, but there were no dog friendly hotels...so on we went...it was a 5000ft+(?) pass outta Parump to The Meadows, but Bessie was runnin' great!
next up, Moses goes to Vegas... |

Ok....Moses has his favorite hotel, as they NEVER say no to Moses...and this one has a fancy sign!
But this one is nicer than most...not all Motel6's are created equal!
He moves on in...and gets his 'spot'.
and out for a pee and pose...
Moses likes his Hooters...
Now we are off for a walk on the strip....Moses says he knows of a place to get some 'bitch' here...
More later...

Off to the strip...Moses thinks he found us some.....
Things have really changed since I lived here in the 80's...
Turns out, there are not many dogs out for a Saturday Night walk on the Strip...but Moses was Happy!
He has seen more of America than most folks...
He liked the Eiffel Tower...but then, he was pretty much liking it all.
Even the escalators...
Funny he never likes TV, but this giant screen had him baffled...
Or maybe he was just ready for...oops
The culture shock from Death Valley was dizzying...all in a good day.
and finally on the way back 'home'...
Moses liked the Meadows, tomorrow we're off to Lake Havasu...(more water for schwimming) |

great shots. Thank you for sharing Bessie, Moses, the terrain and story.
FYI - get Bessie tuned up. Death Valley, especially this cooler time of the year should really supercharge an engine instead of making it run poorly. Sounds like you are running lean if it runs better at elevation than below sea level. There is so much more oxygen per breath at Death Valley that it increases HP significantly. Pilots really notice it dry cold mornings in DV as it is litterally like having a supercharger on the engine. The oppisite is a hot humid day at elevation which leaves an engine gasping for oxygen. So if your engine runs better in a lean air environment (altitude) it doesn't have enough fuel being delivered at sea level and below. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Running below sealevel is great! Drove around at the 2nd lowest place on the planet, the Turpan Depression in China, 155m below sealevel. Great powerboost! _________________ 1978 T2b ASI Riviera Plan I // Camper Special with MegaSquirt & EDIS // 091 with 5.14 R/P and Peloquins LSD

They're barely open on weekdays.
If you need something today, go to Meyers on Boulder Hwy and Sahara. _________________ Eric

Yeah, I'm in Lake Havasu for a week...she needs a cap and rotor for sure, and maybe wires... I just did plugs and valves in Reno last week, and she was running fairly good from Vegas to Lake Havasu today, save the God Damned Wind!

That's funny you have a mustard lid too! I can't seem to find a decent orange one at any of the bone yards...but the mustard matches the turn signal color.

Already hundreds of miles away...I can't stand what Vegas has become. It's a freakin' parody of what it used to be. Bugsy Siegal would just shot himself, if he saw what it has become! (I got married once at the Flamingo) I used to live off Lake Mead and Eastern in the "Ghetto" back in the 80's...we were REO Speed Dealers, when meth was just for Bikers and Strippers.
Now were at a place with WATER, no traffic, and sunshine...
p.s. @ maximan1....I would answer your PMs if you took me off ignore.
funny how I'm on ignore, yet you have to look... |

Hey thanx...I'm staying @ guess where......the Motel6! (not too far from there) I'll drop your name so they can charge me extra!
Kinda funny how this is considered "off season", yet in the summer it's too God Damned hot to be here!
We used to come here back in the 70's in high school...had some great times at Crazy Horse Camp Ground. Now there's a Super Wal-Mart...
yes, I'm that old |
