Hi

A friend of mine just gave me a set of standoffs, he had them on his '68 but didn't like the look, so he offered them to me. I'm going for a cal-look style with my bug so they're ideal.

However the top of my decklid hits the bodywork, so I can't open it

Here's a pic

Do the standoffs go on top of the original brackets or underneath? I've got them on top at the moment because it seemed logical...

Hopefully someone will be able to help me Rolling Eyes

Something is not right there! The deck lid should be way off the body like 4 inches or so.

Can you post another photo of what you got? Maybe what you have arn't really the stand offs.

This is what you should have;

And when you get it figured out, make sure you get one of these too! It makes living with stand offs a lot more fun,

Those are exactly what I have, which way are they meant to be mounted?
on top of the stock brackets or on the bottom?

`Does this look right?

the aluminum brackets bolt to the body then bolt the stock brackets to those then the decklid attaches

yes they are incorrect, the aluminum brackets are made to push your stock brackets off the body further out. there should be six holes in each bracket.

But the stock brackets are welded to the body, I've bolted the stand offs onto the stock brackets then the hinges to the stand offs...

I'm getting so confused about this Confused

there should be three bolts on the under side of your main hangers on the body. the aluminum brackets bolt there. if they are welded than thats a no go. there should be a pattern on the new brackets that shows where to place your stock hangers.

Pics are worth a thousand words. Here is a picture from the gallery showing how typical stand-offs are mounted.

I didn't think you could install standoffs any other way. Wink
