That is the place where we found it. You can only see the shifter
You can shift with it and that after years in ground
Thats the reinforcements under front seats:
Anybody know for what this switch is:
Any diference in shifter?
Anybody knows for what this is?
We take a look and after sandblasting the chassis is useable |

Holy dirty pan Bat Man, blasting may not be the best for your pan, it may blast it all away? You may want to try Electrolis (sp). _________________ MyBuild http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=571921

if it is not usable after blasting it won't make any difference if you use blasting or electrolysis. If there is not enough metal there it won't matter either way.
Based on the two round drain plugs on the pan it looks like you have a Klubelwagen pan there. _________________ Chris

Would that hulk of rust even set off a detector ?
Seriously though, very cool, especially if its a kubel. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=366056 - My '73 Super Build. 2332cc, 16" Fuchs |

How come that pan buried in the dirt lasted longer then most of my cars above ground?
Maybe I'm washing them too much. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

Looks kind of like QWERTY's 46 chassis. His is in a little better shape
If you look at the 2 center support straps they match the details on the bottom of the pan pictures from above.

Nice artifact from the past.
The switch could be a revers light switch that workt over a lever that was attached to the shift rod.
I have seen a simular setup. It is for sure aftermarket.
I think the early beetles used the same floor as the kubel, sure the ones made before 47.
best regards. _________________ Zelensis, glassfibre body made in Belgium , disigned and built on a VW platform About 25 body's built.

I was wrong about the drain plugs. They would be at the very front of the pans as you can see in the picture of the overturned Klubel. But most definitely a very early pan. _________________ Chris

Whats the deal with the bottom of the shock towers? Is that the shock mount below the lower tube? _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

Soak that thing in a huge pan of STONG tea----the tannic acid will stop the rusting and the chunks of rust will fall off leaving just dark metal. Look it up on the net. It'll take a while but may be less destructive than blasting! This is what we did in a museum for such metal as 200 yr old axe heads found in mud for preservation.
How did you happen across this find?????????????
Such exciting times in the VW world!!!!!! |
