Hey transmission gurus!
I have a 1993 Volkswagen eurovan westy that has some transmission issues.
Symptoms: car starts in park, 3 seconds trans grabs and stalls engine while in park
Will not start in neutral,
Neutral safty switch? Shifter cable?
I don't want to guess, I know these vans have transmission woes so I read.
Any help would be great, thanks

Not a transmission guru, but there is quite a lot of transmission information on the ev_update Yahoo group, and some very knowledgeable people there. Some her too, just not so many for the Eurovan.

Sounds like trans is engaging while still in park position, if I understand your description. Do you mean it stalls because the park pin is still engaged, or you are putting it in gear and then it stalls for some other reason?

Hi Ron,
The transmission seems to be stuck in drive.
As soon as it devolops oil pressure it slams against the the park pin and stalls.
The whole van lurches forward in the process!
The process is while in park.
Thanks for your time, where is this ev group?
Rodney

Clean out the servo pack. Take off the pan, clean everything that you can see, blast the packs. The pin isn't being released. You may have to dismantle the whole thing. It might be bent from all the slamming. Sucks but thems the breaks on the auto trans. You can rebuild one for about $300 or so if you do it yourself and the servo packs are okay.

For that group, yes you have to join. Yahoo group membership requirements vary by group, but that one requires membership.
