Saw this in a group of pictures advertising a Corvair engine(on Samba). Its not a Sportster but is definitely nicer than the average homemade steel panel VW buggy. Wonder who built it. Wish that sticker on the side was legible.

I PM'd the owner and he said the sticker says it was made by National Refuse Equipment of Tuscon, Arizona. That's very cool. I think it looks like an old Jeepster.

So, its a VWeep! Is that yours?

Seriously, its got great lines and looks very well made! Love the profile drawing on the sticker.

I wonder if its unique. I only found this post from 2007 about one, wonder if its the same one. It would be a great addition to a collection.

I found a couple more pictures in my files. I think this must have been on ebay maybe a year or so ago.

I guess inflation caught up to this one, it is on eBay for $3995 opening bid. Sounds like a good deal if there is $3994 in cash stored in the trunk.

Check out the listing, there are a lot more pics of this Vweep. It is listed as a 1963, made by National Refuse Company. It looks like the guy that welds the dumpsters together had some leftover material and a lot of free time.

Wow, looks like I missed out because I couldn't see this diamond in the rough....we'll see how it sells. It does sport those new "Missouri Chrome" rims now. Very Happy

The origins of this machine are fun but the constant ribbing you'd face from anyone who knew would tend to get old in a hurry I'd think. With the right "Imagineering" it could look ...well, better. Screams for a WWII theme if you ask me. Don't think even the heavily salted midwest roads will eat this one significantly, once you put the same gauge metal in the floors.

Thanks for the update, I'll be keeping an eye on the sale.

Interesting car. I wonder how many of them were actually made. Apparently they intended to build enough that they did a bit of graphics arts work to make the stickers, but I can't find any other references to a VWeep.

Now, if there is only one or two of these surviving does that make it more valuable than, say, a Country Buggy, or does it make it just another garage creation worth scrap metal prices? Hard to say...

I'm strangely attracted to some homely cars and this one certainly qualifies as homely. Laughing I like the fairly odd stuff too. But niether attribute equates to value in my book, just stuff I like to look at and think about.

While it has some history I think it's got pretty limited appeal. The Empi Sportster is an ugly thing (no offense to anyone) but there were enough of them sold/owned/seen to be known and maybe desired in addition to an industry recognizable name.

I wish him luck, lots of folks in the world looking for that one true thing that makes them happy and there's a string for every Yo Yo I've been told. Very Happy Could be someone's dream car.
