Just wondering if anyone has tried to run a set of these 17" Fuch knock-off's they are now selling on CIP1's website? At $169 per wheel they seem like a decent rim...just not sure about backspacing and what offset they are and if they would fit on a beetle?
Anyone have any experience with these rims???
Here's the link.

I'm not sure who is producing these..limited information provided at the moment, trying to inquire and find out...but yes..you're right..that's a hell of a savings. $680 give or take for a set of 4...not too bad!!

I actually just called about these yesterday. They are being made by MWS (Europe), like most of the other wheels they sell.
Backspacing is 5 1/2" with an offset of 40 mm. Hope this helps. Oh, they accept normal og. center caps too. They told me they have about 60 rims right now.

Hope this helps.

I'm still a bit of a noob trying to figure out the correct offset and backspacing required on my lowered VW to make these fit...
Any idea what set-up one might need to make these fit without a lot of rubbing?
I think the backspacing on my current Empi 5 knock-off's is 3-11/16" Not sure what their offset is but I know it pushed the rim out further than the stock smoothies. I have a feeling my 2" narrowed beam wont cut it...

I think thats where the problem may be for anyone wanting to run these on a bug, I noticed on the iozzio thread the bug running those (his) 17's were 12mm offset on the rear, 38mm offset on the front with a -6" beam.

17x7" at +40 should be good for a Beetle with a narrowed beam. The wide-5 Escra 17s are either +40 or +42, I don't recall. Rear might need small spacers depending on axle length.

cheers

When I looked at these I noticed they had 60 degree conical seats.
CIP had the bolts & center caps caps, but I didn't find locks.
Also I am wondering what the Hub center dia. is, and how much they weigh?
My guess is these wheels are cast, not forged, so they will weigh much more than the forged Izzy wheels.

the center hub is 70mm just like later porsche wheels. for the locks you can buy those and the other nuts for that sake at any decent wheel shop.
as said they are 17x7 et 40 so they will be very close to the 17" rader repops(escra's). run the same tire set ups as the folks running those are and you'll be fine.

i looked into these LONG ago and was dealing with midland directly. they kept putting me off saying they were out of stock an dwould be in stock in 3 weeks. thats what i was told for MONTHS. i got tired of waiting and went with other wheels instead. i got response that they were in stock right around the same time they hit the Cip1 page so i'm guessing it's the order they've been waiting on for months.

i will say i just received 3 other sets of wheels from Midland and the quality is good for the price.

so with that said for what it's worth are these as nice as those $2400 ones. NO. can you buy 2 sets for that same $2400(and probably have a few bucks left). YES.

sucks i really wanted to be the first person in the US with a set of these on my square...ken....

Each wheel has its place. If your looking for a cast, 40mm, 17" replica then the CIP1 wheel is the right choice.

But if your building a special project or need a specific offset for a perfect fit then thats where my forged 17" wheels come in. Steves blue and white bug in the picture is running a 12mm offset in the rear and 38mm in front. With all of the differences in front and rear suspensions out there a wheel with one offset will not accomodate every type of VW.

Here are some of the specs my new wheels have:
17" design based on an original early 911 15" Fuchs Porsche alloy
CAD designed and custom forged, not cast
Any Offsets from +12mm (4.5 backspace) and +80mm (7.125 backspace)
The center can accommodate Bolt patterns 5X130 and 5x4.75
17" wheels available in 7",8" and 10" widths
Extra long mounting pad to eliminate need for wheel spacers
SFI/DOT standard tested
T6061 forged aluminum
Accepts an original 70mm Porsche center cap
"Iozzio" logo center caps included with each wheel
Available in fully polished and classic black/polished finishes
Ceramic painted
Ceramic clearcoat also available
Lightweight, strong two piece design
Hidden valve stems
Made in the USA
18" version coming in the near future

As far as a cast wheel looking as good as a fully forged wheel, I think you guys know the answer to that one. Very Happy

I just put a set on my '60 ragtop. Can't take for a drive as it is cold as @#&%%$ and lots of ice. Looks like I have good clearance.
Very Happy
The rear should settle some more, I just bounced it a couple of times after putting on the tire.

Mike you were able to bolt the 40mm offset wheels on the rear without a spacer? You are running short swing axle in the rear, right? I tried the 38mm in the rear of my test car and it hit the spring plate, couldnt even get the wheel to bolt on. Confused
