Thanks to Russ at Frances Andrew site Furnishings I was able to get a new bumper bar bent up. The old original Manx bumper was in less than great shape with the lower bar badly damaged.
Before
After
a little more welding and sanding and it's off to the chrome shop.
Now off to finish that exhaust and try and get it fired this weekend! |

gkafer i am in love with you guy!!!!!
i am buying a plane ticket just to come there from italy and hug u!!!!!!!!
great great great job.
real buggy is vintage one!!!!!
85 per cent of buggy owners just does one ton of useless tubes wrapped around the sky.
the result?
if u buy a beetle it is just lighter....
with a one ton frame they just have to do one ton suspensions....
and then they need 500 horsepower to move them...
i think tht nowadays most of buggies are just like a chevy blazer more than a buggy!!!!!!
u have the real one, u have stock frame and 40 hp. u can go through the baja. that's magic!!! isn't it?
and i didn't talk about aestetical question yet.....
what is lighter, simplier, cleaner and more relaxing than an original manx??
original buggy idea is art of minimalism applied to a car.
overload it and u kill it.
they came into world cause they were light, cheap, cool, and nice.
let's keep them this way men!!!!!
sorry if i was radical |

Bobfalfa5, Thanks for the kind words. I like all types of buggys but the simple old school ones are my fav!
Here's an update for those who chimed in on my windsheild seal dilema. I talked with Dino's wife and she was kind enough to send a pic of their seal. It would work great but since I needed one asap I did a little searching in my memory banks.
When I built the HebRod I used a convertable windsheild bow seal and thought it may be close. I ordered one up and with a pair of scissors trimed a small flap off and it fits and works better than the orig! Best part is it was under $10
I can post the part # if anyone needs it. |

You don't have Meyers Manx valve covers on the engine. |

Well the Manx took it's first breath today! It took a while to get oil PSI but as soon as it did it fired on the first try. I did the break in and I gotta say I love the sound of that exhaust!
I spent today working on a lot of little things, goin over al the suspension nuts and bolts, swaped the 009 to a nice 019 as well as worked out a electrical gremlin.
I hope to have it moving under it's own power early next week.
Great day! |

man don't tuch that tip!!!! it's much better than usual pipe!!!!
u did a very nice exhaust, coated in white as they did in sixties..
problem is that (i don't know wht paint u used) i tried at least ten brands of white high temperature coat and they are double fragile than balck ones, even if factory puts same temperature of resistance.
i thought that all heatproof paint we see in old pictures maybe contained asbestos....
let me know if u solved situation please.....
i paint mufflers one time a month....
but i love them white and i don't want to give up...
nice swap 009 for 019!!!! would be nice to paint it metallic blue as screamer kit ones!!!
i have a 010 working very well!!! |

I used VHT 1500 high heat paint, and yes you must lay it on in thin coats and try and bake it for the best results. I'm witing on some white ceramic coating to come in so I can have it done and be done with it.
As for the 019, I was going to go for a blue one but all the pic's of the engine kits have the black one so I just kept it the way it was. Runs great with this dist...better than the 009. |

Big day today, I went for my first drive! It was just down the lane and back a few times as I jetted the Zenith but it was a milestone.
First off I got my chrome back yesterday.... The front and rear bumpers really look nice considering what I started with.
Installed the Delswift mirror, Bumpers, skid plate and a few other things.
Lots more to do tomorrow. I still need to build the air filter (old school oil bath) licence plate mount, root etc..
Anyways just wanted to share the big day! I love driving this already. |

Where did you buy the rear bumper or is it home made?
Excellent job. This is the most beautiful Manx restauration I've ever seen. _________________ Gert

Yeah where did you find that rear bumper? I thought about using the same type for a front bumper but all I can find for sale are the cheapo EMPI ones with the bend in the center. One of the early Manx brochures shows a similar one on the front.
I may have answered my own question:
http://tinyurl.com/2g9takz
Now the question is can I make it work as a front bumper.
Thanks,

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's been a fun build so far.
The rear bumper is the original from back in 68. (I was lucky to get it and the skid plate with the car) It was a little rough but looking good now.
Here's a shot of another with the same bumper from 67 I think.
