|
|
Hey all. I found a 1600cc long block intact and was hoping to use it as a beatdown runner while another engine is being built for it.
I have no clue what's going on inside of it and really am in no mood to tear the whole thing apart. I'm more interested in getting it mildy freshened and running it till it blows.
Here's the basic stuff.
It's a DP.
All holes have rags stuffed in them.
I've been squirting Marvel Mystery Oil in the intakes for about 2 weeks.
She turns over about 180 degrees total then gets sticky. (I havn't popped the valve covers yet) If I can get it to turn completely over then I'll feel better about using her.
Plan is to pop the heads off and install new pushrod tubes and seals along with oil cooler seals and a main seal. Check deck height and endplay. I might need a new distributor drive as the one that's in there is looking pretty sketchy. Then piece together some tin and have it ready to go.
Any other input would be greatly appreciated.
NAES
Anything else I should think of doing before I put it back together? _________________ Barndoor Mafia

Is the distributor installed when you are trying to turn it over? You mentioned the drive looks 'sketchy'. Without the dizzy in the drive will try to climb out of the hole when being turned over... |

Dizzy is out. I might just pull the drive gear since it looks corroded. Might be a good weekend project for me.
Thanks, NAES _________________ Barndoor Mafia

I should have added if the drive is climbing out it can also lock up the motor. f\Force it too far and you can bugger up the brass crank gear... |

Pull the spark plugs then try to turn it. Should be much easier |

Just plop an 009 in there, that's about all they're good for on a stock engine.
I keep busted dizzies just for that kind of purpose. |
