Special 2 piece muffler, got to love southeast rust.

Did get the engine out its clean endplay feels great. Feels like the rings are all that is stuck.

Just finished reading your post Youbugme2, nice job getting the PO to sell it to you, did she ever say why it was put in the yard and what does the odometer say? Cool Gecko's too were they Gecko eggs? Lastly forgive me for not knowing yet but do all air cooled engines have a preheat I am not familiar with that term, still learning.

Congratulations on your wife's pregnancy and I love her enthusiasm with the bus it will make for great family memories just remember to tell your kids NOT to put their hands on the door latch when in drive Wink

Yes, the stock engines came with the heat flaps and thermostat just helps the engine get to normal driving temp that much faster. She never told me why it was parked, but there was a guy after it before I got it. He said it was parked with brake problems, I believe that since the rear wheels were covered in brake fluid. More than likely the only reason the brakes were not rusted to the drum.
I did get the the engine on the stand couple days ago. Got to looking at the carb the safety wire on the governor where it is twisted together has a vw stamp in it. Pretty cool I'll try to get some pictures up tonight. Just havn't been out there much other than to just clean up. Waiting on some metal to get in so I can start cutting some stuff off.

Engine is on the stand going to start taking it apart to see what is keeping it from turning. I have a feeling the rings are rusted to the cylinder.

Well went ahead and broke down the engine part of the way. It was for sure a running engine when it was parked can tell everything moves well and there is no major damage to be seen... so far
Lots of build up in the cylinders

Didn't get a good picture of this but pretty neat. The screws on the governor have holes so they can all be safety wired together. Where the wire is twisted together it is leaded and has a vw emblem stamped into it. Cool stuff guess that was early tamper proofing lol.

After cleaning up all the remnants of the old engine decided just for kicks and giggles to hand buff and wax one spot of the paint.

I think I know about the ovals lol. They aren't together one is behind a privacy fence and not for sale the other one is ratty and the guy wants way to much. The 60 is on the road now if it was the white one without the turn signals. Small towns got to love it, but yeah if you are around feel free to hit me up chat goof off.

Starting to wonder what I should do next. I expected to have some sheet metal by now but it hasn't been shipped. So thinking about just going ahead and building the engine. Doing some of the brake work, just dont want to be sitting around much longer waiting on the metal to show up.
