Got the drivers side corner off, got some more metal to fix. Also started test fitting the corner, its pretty far off. I measured it and its 1/4" shorter so going to have to make some adjustments.

If you were closer to me, I'd store it for free. Wink I have space to store it covered.

I just read all 13 pages of this thread. I love the bus, and it is so interesting seeing the project evolve over the years. The whole time I was reading, I was hoping you were able to hold on to it. Keep up the great work. You've given me some insight of what to do with my project. Subscribed!

From Sunday 8 April Washington Post:

Quote:
World War II in Europe was over, the celebrations had ebbed, and peace was on the horizon. But from her apartment in Harlem on June 5, 1945, Phyllis C. Dickson wrote a plaintive letter to the War Department about her missing husband.

Capt. Lawrence E. Dickson, 24, a black fighter pilot who had trained at the Tuskegee Army Flying School, had gone down over Italy, it was thought, on Dec. 23, 1944.

Months had passed since she’d heard any word. “Please believe me when I say I have been greatly distressed,” she wrote. “I have tried to be brave (but) it has really been an effort.”

“I meet the mailman daily hoping & praying for some news but so far none,” she wrote.

Seventy-three years later, the Defense Department may finally have some.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) is investigating the possibility that human remains and other items recovered from a wartime crash site in Austria this past summer may be those of Dickson.

Well its been a while, but things are coming together. We got a new house with a shop, so no more one car garage to work out of. Had lots stuff to do around the house though. Had to build a chicken coop, remove a wall in the shop, and rewire the entire thing. Built a shed and got a new compressor, put it in the shed and piped it into the shop.
Now you can talk while its running and don't have to wait for it to pump up lol. Only a few things left to do and its on to the bus.

Finished emptying the bus out and cleaning up. Got all the seats out and went ahead and took all the seat covers and padding off. Was a good idea since they all had rats nests inside of them. All and all they are in good shape, got all the rods labeled and put up and frames are now in the attic.

Finished cleaning the shop as well.

Then went ahead and removed all the pop outs, yeah those are going to be a fun project... Think I might just replace some of the frames they are so rusted on the bottom, only had to drill out about 10 of the machine screws holding them on though yay.

Just giving you a heads up there’s a license plate frame on the eBay item number 362540390632. The reason I’m telling you it goes with your bus. It says Tuskegee airmen .

Hell, that's cool and cheap too. Even if you never mount it on the Deluxe, it'll look good on your shop wall!

Thanks I went ahead and got it. I have the og hamac tag frame that was on the bus more than likely going to leave that on there but this will make a cool
wall hanger.

Went ahead and took the windshield out. I was expecting the worst considering the last bus I did this on all the metal came out with the window. One cracked but had rock chips all over it pretty sure I decided to go with safaris anyways. Got the front door window frames pulled as well they were also on good shape considering it sat for so long outside.

Had a side job to do then did some work on the bus. I love having a shop now even though its small.

Made the inner support for the corner, sure beats paying 85 bucks for it.

After spending a ton of time and making adjustments to the corner I got it all welded up.

I came out really nice, still have to do some work to it but its done for now. Next on to the drivers rocker, a nice straight long piece of metal that I really don't want to warp...

Are you a rural mail carrier? Or just have a DJ-5 for the fun of it? Not sure why anyone would want a DJ-5 for the fun of them though. Biggest worn out pieces of falling apart crap. I drove one to deliver mail and had do use vacation all the time to keep it going for the next week. Spent so much keeping it running I could have made payments on a new car to deliver out of.

Haha yes it’s a dj5 but I don’t deliver mail. I bought it from a few houses down and use it as my yard cart. Got it for nothing pretty much and the motor only has 20,000 miles on it. I have driven it around and I have to admit 5ph is the fastest I want to go on the thing.
