today I replaced t-stat on my van, the van seemed to be running a little cool, never quite getting to led position and the heater output was poor. Part of the problem with heater output, I think, is that the webasto bbw 46 heater had been bypassed and I don't think the water circulation to heater is optimum (it goes through an electrically controlled valve which may be faulty, you can see that valve on attached pic).
Access to the t stat is more difficult with the ac lines and the additional webasto plumbing. I loosened the hose on the right hand side of t stat housing, the short one that leads to a metal cross over pipe and I managed to get the housing separated and the t-state swapped with 87C unit.
Dash temp gage needle now sits on led and heat a bit better, but not melt your face off hot.
While idling the engine to check for leaks I heard an occasional tick tick tick, a spark jumping noise. I tracked it down to a bad lead connection on dist. cap. Instead of fussing with trying to clean connection (there must be a good tool out there to do that), I swapped in a spare cap and leads, and managed to break off a bit of the coil plastic, grrr.
but it runs fine and now sparking.
see if you can spot the thermostat, sort of a where's waldo thing. hint: you can't, the webasto heater electric valve in the way
