and hello again
HAZET 2597 parallel claw tensioner for torsion bar stabilizer (1972)
Tensioner with two star grip screws (one is fixed) for mounting the stabilizer under the front axle on VW type 1 (classic beetle and others like that, except 1302 and 1302S) and type 2 (as transporter & bus) vehicle classes.
Inscriptions on one side of the claw are "HAZET", below in small "GERMANY", "2597" and "DBGM" for registered German federal utility pattern and on the other side "CHROM VANADIUM".
This tool only appears in the 1972 catalog - it is not included in the 1970 catalog before or after 1976. Later there were two other tools with a completely different function with this number no longer for air-cooled Volkswagens. Only briefly around 1979 an open 17 mm double ring spanner for diesel injection lines and since 2000 as a curved bit holder as a door hinge tool.

Hello everyone,
new arrival in my collection:
HAZET 2586 ignition adjustment tool (1969-1972)
This ignition timing adjustment tool for old mechanical rotation ignition distributors with a yellow-transparent handle and gray cable with a blue plug was for old VW type 1 (classic beetle and others like that) and type 2 (old T2 / bay window transporter & bus) vehicle classes. Several tools, such as a test lamp, open-end or ring spanner, which are required for ignition adjustment, are replaced by this HAZET 2586.
Remove the distributor cap from the ignition distributor and switch on the ignition. Turn the crankshaft until the ignition timing mark is on the housing parting line. First check that cylinder 1 is at the correct top dead center (TDC) 0° by checking the overlap of the two valve opening phases on the 3rd cylinder - the pulley mark (at the rear in driving direction) should then be on the housing parting line, as with the original. The second, more important pulley marking (at the front in driving direction) is for the standard ignition timing 7.5° before TDC opposite the housing joint. Attach the cable to terminal 1 of the ignition coil (usually a green cable also runs from there to the distributor capacitor). If the test lamp does not light up, position the tool so that the clamping screw of the ignition distributor is clamped between the ring spanner and socket wrench. Loosen the 10 mm screw by turning the handle. Turn the ignition distributor clockwise until the breaker contact is closed. Then turn the distributor anti-clockwise until the contact begins to open and the test lamp lights up. Retighten the 10 mm clamping screw on the distributor and check the timing again. Put the distributor cap on.
The inscriptions on the yellow transparent handle are "HAZET" and "2586" on one side and "CHR.-VAN." for chrome-vanadium, "D.B.G.M." on the other side for registered German federal utility pattern and "GERMANY". On the socket secured with a slotted screw in the tool "Hazet" (yes, little "a"), below it small "GERMANY" and below that "2586" and a "10".
The tool only appears in catalogs from 1969 to 1972 - cannot be found in catalogs before 1967 or after 1976. From 1988 to 2005 there was a clamping wedge set “2586 N” for exhaust systems.

Hello again,
are often overlooked as Hazet VW special tools because they hide under the socket sets and ratchets:
Hazet 921 (1950-1972) - VW spring rod fastening 8 mm
Hazet 922 (1950-1972) - VW cylinder head bolts 10 mm
HAZET 923 (1967-1972) - VW oil drain and filler plug on the gearbox 17 mm
and something much older:
Hazet 196 (around 1932) - automobile wrench "Excelsior"
not for Volkswagen, but for "Auto Union" (four rings standing for the brands "DKW", "Wanderer", "Horch" and "Audi") - today AUDI is part of VW.
This 9 1/2" adjustable wrench with Auto Union part# "896583-0" was probably part of an on-board tool kit -
as other Hazet standard spanners 10x12 with "896580-0", 11x14 "896581-0", 17x19 "896582-0", ... could be found at the Internet.

Hello everyone,
HAZET 1932 welding pliers (1969 to today, this version with yellow handles 1979 to before 1988).
These pliers are designed for bending sheet metal up to 1 mm thick in order to weld them with an overlap.
Now I need the matching 1964 hole punch pliers for spot welding.
But for longer edges I use another hand-friendly tool with compressed air.
HAZET 1861-00 and 1861-11 stripping pliers (1967-2000, this version 1967 and 1969 until before 1985).
These pliers with yellow-transparent hand protection are used to strip fine wires with a diameter of 0.3 to 1.2 mm or 0.5 to 5 mm, without having to adjust the cross-section. The different diameters are implemented using parallel, spring-loaded gripping blade slats. In practice, however, this means more effort than with the simple 1860-1 with V-blades and over the years neither the spring force nor the cutting/gripping blade is even across all the sensitive slats. Therefore, it is not such a great tool.

Hazet 808 - A car toolkit, in black leather / vinyl map
This exact model is somewhat different from the model referenced in the 1972 catalog; and the toolkit disappeared in the 1979 catalog. Is it referenced in a catalog between 72 and 79 ? Perhaps someone can help me with that?

Hello everyone,
added another old version of the Hazet 916 1/2" ratchet to my collection 1952-1969 (the "Herbrand S-10" styled versions era):
1952 - 1958 - with slotted screws at the front, flat cover at the back and upper & lower case of the brand "Hazet"
1958 - 1960? - with Phillips screws at the front, flat cover at the back and upper & lower case of the brand "Hazet" (still missing in my collection)
1960? - 1965 - with Phillips screws at the front, cover at the back with 2 bulges and upper and lower case of the brand "Hazet"
1965 - 1969 - with Phillips screws at the front, cover at the back with 2 bulges and upper case of the brand "HAZET"
beside other old 3/8" ratchets as HAZET 8816 G, 8816 GK and
a new 1/2" 916 HPLG (High Performance Lang Gelenk - up to 1000 Nm force, long, adjustable length joint - maximum almost twice as long):

No, this is no "L" underline. And the Hazet 764 was not listed in the L time catalog 1949 or before.
This connection of the line has also been used several times over the years on some small inscriptions - probably to protect the production tools.
E.g have it also at a near 1965 "Hazet" 1860-1 wire stripper - and others.
Please also keep in mind: not everything was manufactured by HAZET itself - since there were so many variants, maybe there were several suppliers for this cheap tool. And back then there were not always such strict corporate identity guidelines. And expensive manufacturing tools were used until new ones were worthwhile, even beyond CI guidelines changes. So it can be only a rough indicator of age. _________________ Rolf-Stephan Badura

Hello,
the Hazet 764 was available from 1950-1988.
In some catalogs there is no length value listed. So this is what I found:
year length inscript
1950 225 mm Hazet
1952 225 mm Hazet
1958 215 mm Hazet
1965 230 mm HAZET
1967 230 mm HAZET
1972 230 mm HAZET
1976 135 mm HAZET
1979 135 mm HAZET
1985 120 mm HAZET
regards, |
Thank you Rolf.
All mine are small "a" and only the medium measures to something close with bar extended straight out, 215mm
Not certain how they were measured at Hazet
|
I have a couple…
Both have underline extending to the right, connected to the “H.”
I believe there were “L” underline 764’s, right?
Any help w/year would be appreciated… if it can get any more granular?
Top one is 222 mm, has a step in the middle, brushed finish at socket.
Bottom one is 213 mm, tapered (no step), polished socket.

Not as interesting as the spark plug wrenches, but still a Hazet: large A Hazet 2141-4. English style ball peen machinist’s hammer. Found in a German Army tank toolbox .
For the record, if you are collecting tools for your Leopard tank, other manufacturers in box were Voltus, Acesa, SKG, Wuro, VBW, and Mechanic.
Neighbor with Pinzgauer and MB G-wagens pointed out my Hazet 715 tire iron is included in his tool kits. Looks like they still sell this or a similar version.
There are a ridiculous number of Pinz, G-wagens and VW buses in my neighborhood; i need to make them all haul out their tool boxes and see what turns up.
