356C or early 911 steelies. You probably know that 356 front brakes, regardless if A or B drums (wide 5 rim bolt pattern); or C discs (narrow 5 pattern), have spindles that bolt directly onto a type 1 link-pin suspension.

Anybody notice the Brazilian Ghia Coupe, based on the "rectangular" front bumper profile?

It seems that the rounded Ghia body was getting a bit "long in the tooth" and out of style at some point, so they commissioned drawings/mockups of this which looks somewhat BMW-ish or Opel.

I know, I know ... this is not a "vintage" Karmann Ghia photo ...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

... but it IS a photo of a vintage Karmann Ghia, and it does fit in with the long string of "motor sporting" Karmann Ghias just previously posted.

I sort of like that.
Better nose protection?
You could run a light bar across it for rallys too

Another thing about that Ghia ... the windscreen doesn't have the chrome trim and the edges, including the A pillar, appear to take a different shape. It pre-dates the California look.

The windshield is fully curved on the ends, A pillar in a completely new location.

These last few pics are great. Whats up with the beater? There is a story there.

This was a styling study worked up by Ghia as a follow-up to the production model, circa 1957, featuring a revised windshield shape and A-pillar solution, as well as those distinctive bumpers. The work was attributed to Pietro Frua, who had just sold his eponymous coachbuilding firm (noted for their bodies penned for the Ferrari 250 and Maserati A6G) to Carrozzeria Ghia, where Luigi Segre made him Head of Design.

Obviously, the bumpers were not signed off by Karmann or Volkswagen, nor was the windshield modification deemed necessary. The bumper design did, however, live in in the first iteration of the 1961 Volvo P1800 sports coupe, which was styled by Pietro Frua's intern, a Swede by the name of Pelle Petterson:

Intrestesting that Frua used the same bumperdesign for several cars.

Some more info about the P1800.
There were 3 prototype cars made by Frua already in 57/-58 called P958 (X1, X2, X3).
https://www.v1800.org/index.php/sv/historien-om-volvo-p1800/prototyperna/frua-p958-x1.html

All three cars now lives in Sweden, X3 is under renovation

Not a photo, but someone shared this excellent video clip/short film on the KG World Club FB page! Don’t think it’s been shared here. Masses of period detail and a cute little story/plot. The scariest bit is where the rescue snowplough wraps a chain around the lowlight’s bumper!!
