Very nice pic. I don’t recognise the number plate configuration and I can’t guess where it was taken. Looks kind of Italian lakes.
It’s not a UK number plate, unless it’s private and I don’t think it’s the Channel Islands. I wonder if it might be Gibraltar? Any guesses? |
It's not South Africa either - the registration plates of that era started with a C for the Cape Province, T for Transvaal, O for the Orange Free State and N for Natal. Each town had its own second letter. Cape Town was CA, Pretoria TP, etc.
New Zealand - also a RHD country - had plate configurations at the time with 2 letters followed by a max of 4 numbers. The first plates were AA, and when they reached AA9999 they opened AB. The scenery could also be New Zealand. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Sorry definitely not NZ the early NZ plates were as described but were always black plates with silver letters. |

Do you think the "LL" on the license plate stands for Low Light? |

"Volkswagen Karmann Ghia coupe has a bit more power as well as rapid acceleration for passing with its new 1600 engine."
I assume the emphasis there was on "a bit more" of that "rapid acceleration" from the 1600.
Just enough to allow the Ghia to make a blistering 0 to 60 mph run in a mere 21 seconds!
I also find the claim of the Karmann Ghia "Ranking as the world's most popular coupe" to be very surprising, indeed.
My guess would be that claim is heavily dependent upon the exact definition of "coupe".

coupe
/ko͞op/
noun
1.
a car with a fixed roof and two doors.
2.
HISTORICAL
a four-wheeled enclosed carriage for two passengers and a driver. |
Obviously there were MANY other cars with a fixed roof and two doors that must have been much more popular - the Beetle comes immediately to mind, for example.
As far as other 2 passenger cars, I would have guessed that there were others produced in greater numbers.
However, after some brief searching I can see that perhaps that notion is wrong.
MG only produced around 22k MGBs and Datsun only produced a mere 17k 240zs, as opposed to the nearly 25k Karmann Ghia coupes that VW produced in 1970.
Interesting - very interesting.
You'd think the public would remember the most popular coupe from back then, yet nobody ever seems to know what the heck a Karmann Ghia is today! |
